5th Grade Tests This year, students will be taking the CAASPP (ELA and Math) Students will also be taking the CAST Test in Science. This year, students will be taking a Health and Fitness Test in March. Students must be able to do push ups, sit ups, run the pacer and show flexibility.

Classroom Community We expect students to be highly motivated. In the classroom, we will provide multiple opportunities for hands-on learning. All lessons are standards based. All lessons cater to a variety of learning styles and learning needs. We allow students to take on independent roles and we encourage self-monitoring.

Classroom Community Continued Students are expected to be courteous and respectful of other students and adults. Students are involved in creating classroom rules and consequences. Students are responsible for maintaining good study habits and for completing their assignments.

Supportive and Preventative Measures At the beginning of the year, students created their own rules and behavior guidelines. Students will earn awards based on behavior or academic achievements. These awards can either be individual or whole class. We will model and students will practice specific routines and procedures. Curriculum will be engaging and worthwhile. Discipline Plan A point system will be used to maintain appropriate behavior. Raffle tickets, school wide purple tickets, and prizes will be given out to individuals demonstrating appropriate behavior. Parents will be notified about specific behavior problems. Please review weekly Progress Reports

What you can do to help… Students should have encouragement and support from parents. Parents will be expected to check homework on Mondays and before turning it in every Monday. Please check nightly math homework. We encourage parents to read with their child every night. Please sign the homework planner nightly. Weekly progress will be sent home. We encourage parents to be involved in school activities and the commitment to a positive classroom climate.

Parent Involvement Parents should be supportive of the teacher’s and student’s concerns. We welcome comments or concerns. We can be contacted by phone, email, notes or before and after school. Conferences will be held a few times a year. Additional meetings can be scheduled at the teacher’s and parent’s convenience. We welcome parent volunteers at any time!

Junior Achievement Biz Town We will need approximately 25 volunteers to help that day. If you want to volunteer, you will go through a training the morning of the trip and also stay the whole day at Biz Town to supervise. This will be a lifelong learning experience and will be enjoyable for everyone who attends. On October 31st, all 5th grade classes will be attending Biz Town. This is a simulation that teaches students about financial responsibility, business and community contributions. Students will apply and interview for job positions and will run a town with a variety of businesses for the day. Students will learn about paychecks, check writing and balancing and successful business plans.
