BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT PROGRAM   Helping First Graders develop good decision-making skills and appropriate social behaviors is an integral part of the learning experience. In order to nurture our students’ social growth, we have designed a classroom plan that permits the students to learn by making personal decisions/choices. Our classroom discipline plan is based on a reward system that I have found to be very effective. Each day, students begin on our behavior clip chart on the color green (ready to learn). As the day progresses, the students have many opportunities to move their clip up for positive reinforcement and down when not following classroom rules. Students will be given a warning/reminder of appropriate behavior when not following rules. Repeating poor choices after warning will result in moving their clip down. Throughout the day students are able to ‘clip up’ or ‘clip down’ and they aren’t stuck on one color. If a student has had to move their clip down they are still able to ‘clip up’ when behavior improves, which helps them feel responsible for their choices. Ending the day on green, blue, purple, or pink is a good day in first grade. If they have completed the week with no yellow, orange, or red days, they will be rewarded with the prize box on Fridays. Your child will have a calendar in their homework folder. Each student will have the responsibility to mark their own calendar according to his/her behavior for the day. The teacher then initials on top. This will help us keep daily contact on your child’s progress. Please keep the calendar in the homework folder and initial daily. The children assume responsibility for their actions, learn about our monetary system, and develop better self-control. If you have any questions, please call me at school via phone or e-mail. Pink “Flyin’ High” Purple “Outstanding Effort” Blue “Taken’ Flight” Green “Ready to Learn” Yellow “Head in the Clouds” Orange Teacher’s Choice Red Parent Contact Please sign and return:    I have read the discipline plan for Mrs. Tavenner’s class. I understand how this system works and have discussed this with my child, ___________________________________. (Student’s name) ___________________________________ (Parent’s Signature)
