What’s the Difference?. Climate or Weather?  Weather is the daily conditions of the atmosphere.  Weather changes day to day.  Weather = one day  Example:
Climate Regions Weather – the atmospheric conditions at a given time and place Climate – the average weather of a place over a long period of time “Climate.
 Several factors influence climate: WIND CURRENTS, OCEAN CURRENTS, ELEVATION, TOPOGRAPHY, & ……  LATITUDE!! Latitude is the most influential factor that.

Climates of the Americas Chapter 1 Section 4 Climates of the Americas

“Oh, what a blamed uncertain thing This pesky weather is; It blew and snew and then it thew, And now, by jing it friz.” - Philander Johnson, humorist on America’s weather Cheer Up! The worst is yet to come. -Philander Johnson famous quote

Factors that Affect Climate Weather: Condition of the earth’s climate at any given time. Climate: Average weather of a place for 20-30 years. Precipitation: Water falls from the sky in the form of rain or snow. Altitude: height above sea level. Ocean currents Wind currents Mountains

North American Climates Marine- Pacific Northwest (mild, moist, climate with warm summers and cool winters) Mediterranean- California (Winters are mild and wet, summers are hot and dry) Highland-Western Mts. (Cooler temperatures, varies on altitude) Steppe- Great Plains (summers are hot, winters are cold)

North American Climates cont. Desert- Eastern side of Cascades and Sierra Nevada (Hot days, cold nights, little rainfall) Humid Continental-Central Plains, MINNESOTA!!! (Mild summers, cold winters) Humid subtropical- Southeastern U.S.A.(Warm temperatures, regular rainfall)

N. American Climates Cont. Tropical- Southern Florida and Hawaii (Hot, humid conditions) Tundra and sub arctic-Northern Alaska (Cold all year around)

THE END!!!
