Warm-Up (continue on same warm-up as yesterday) Answer the following questions IN-N-OUT pays $15 an hour. You're scheduled 4 hours on Wed, Thurs., 8 hours on Friday and Saturday. Lastly they call you in on Sunday to cover a 6 hour shift. What is your gross pay for this one week alone? I wanted to put down $5 grand on a new Ford Focus ZX3 Hatchback. I make $18 an hour and usually work about 32 hours a week. How many hours would it take for me to reach my down payment? How many weeks would I have to work in order to reach that goal? How many months?

Consumer Math Ch. 1 Lesson 1.2 Overtime Pay

Learning Target Students will learn how to calculate overtime pay and how much they make in overtime. Essential Question Would you be willing to work a job if they guarantee you 20 hours of overtime a week in addition to your 40 hour work week?

Lesson 1.2 Overtime Pay Example 1 Alan Moore is paid $8.20 an hour for a regular 40-hour week as a restaurant host. His overtime rate is 1 ½ times his regular hourly rate. This week he worked his regular 40 hours plus 10 hours of overtime. What is his total pay?

Lesson 1.2 Overtime Pay Example 1 Concept Check Find the total pay. Check your answers in the back of the book. Josie Perez makes $9.00 an hour. She worked 40 regular hour hours and 6 hours at time and a half. Ed Lange makes $11.50 an hour. This week he worked 36 regular hours and 7 hours at time and a half.

Lesson 1.2 Overtime Pay Example 2 Jessica Cooper is a receptionist at a hotel and conference center. She is paid $12.50 an hour for a regular 40-hour week. Her overtime pay is 1 ½ times her regular hourly rate. This part week Jessica earned $612.50 in total pay. How many hours of overtime did she work? Steps Total Pay = straight-time pay + overtime pay Let h = the number of hours of overtime she worked. Substitute in the formula the values we know and solve for h

Lesson 1.2 Overtime Pay Example 2 Concept Check Complete the problems. Corey Murphy earns $11.80 an hour for a regular 40-hour week at the pet store. His overtime pay is 1 ½ times his regular hourly rate. Last weekly Corey earned $613.60 in total pay. How many hours of overtime did he work? Western Deli pays its couriers straight time for 36 hours per week and double time for any hours more than 36 hours per week and double time for any hours more than 36 worked. Last week Kevin Alvarez worked a total of 42 hours and had total pay of $545.28. What is his straight-time pay?
