Getting Started Class lists will be posted at the beginning of August on the CBS website. Kindergarten Meet and Greet will be on August 12th from 12:30-1:30. ***Note that this is a different time than 1st-6th grades. The first day of school is on August 13th, 2019. August 13th-16th, Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 1:50. Everyone will go through afternoon carpool. August 19th, we will begin regular dismissal plans at 2:50.

CBS Expectations Responsible Am I being safe? Ready Am I doing my best? Respectful Am I valuing others and myself?

Attendance School begins at 7:50 and dismisses at 2:50 each day. If you arrive after 7:50, please bring your child to the office to sign in. Excused absences include illness of the student, death in the immediate family, and religious holidays. Parents must fill out the online absence form found on the CBS website. This form is filled out for illness or for pre-planned vacations. Below is the link to the form: https://www.mtnbrook.k12.al.us/Page/11412 If an excuse is not sent in online, the absence will be considered unexcused.

Birthdays You may bring or send a birthday snack that can be shared with the class at lunch time. Please email your teacher in advance for available days and keep in mind any food allergies. Birthdays can be celebrated on your child’s birthday, the day before or after if it is on the weekend, or on their half-birthday if the birthday falls during the summer. Birthday party invitations may be given out in school only if the entire class is included (unless it is just all boys or all girls).

Medicine All medication must be turned into the school nurse. No medication is given by the classroom teacher. If a child visits the health room, a health form notice will be sent home that day. Sick children should be kept at home. They must be fever free and symptom free for 24 hours before returning back to school.

Lunch Menus are on the CBES website. Please practice your child’s lunch number at home. Plate lunches cost $3.00. Students are not allowed to purchase bottled water from the lunchroom. Please go over with your child how many drinks you like them to purchase during lunchtime. They are charged each time they buy a milk. The student will bring a notice home when his lunch account is low on funds.

CARPOOL If you pick up your child through carpool, you must have your child’s yellow name card displayed in the window. You will pick this up at Meet and Greet! Your child can only be picked up by the people listed on his or her Pick Up Information sheet. If your child needs help buckling their seat belt, please pull into a parking spot (not along the curb) to take time to do this. If your child is to meet someone in particular at a certain place, please make sure that your child understands this completely. If your child is a walker, please make sure they are aware of their rainy day plan. All children will dismiss through carpool for rainy day carpool. Be aware of the No Cell Phone Zone. Please refer to our new Cell Phone Policy on the Cherokee Bend website.

Communication E-mail is the most efficient way to get in touch with your child’s teacher during the day. If you send an email about carpool after 2 p.m., please call the front office to make sure your child’s teacher gets the message. We will be using the Seesaw app to help communicate what we are doing at school. Things we may share are student activities, pictures, and student work. Please know we are engaged in instruction most of the day and may not be able to check or return emails. Please check your child’s take home folder nightly and send back cleaned out each day. Smoke Signals (online)

Volunteer Opportunities and PTO Initiatives We will be having special activities or snacks once a month throughout the year. Please volunteer for these days on the PTO website. http://www.cherokeebend.my-pta.org/
