Welcome to Computer Science Mrs. Hitt

Today we will: Talk about classroom rules (and consequences) Learn classroom procedures Learn how to log on and out of the computers More? We’ll see…

Other Computer Rules: Always a rule no matter where you are: NO YouTube, NO Cool Math Games, NO .io sites (such as Slither.io), NO sites that say “unblocked” (such as unblocked games), NO sites with a lot of ads. These are NOT my rules. These are school rules, per Mr. Dendinger. These sites have a risk of displaying ads that are not kid-friendly and are NOT allowed to be used in Thomas Johnson. If you have any free time on the computers, TJTechClass has a Fun and Games Page and a Typing Activities page that have plenty of school appropriate websites that have been approved.

Mrs. Hitt’s Class Phone Policy You may use phones in class ONLY if I give direction to do so and they must be used in the way that I indicate as appropriate for the class period. Smartwatches follow the same school policy as cell phones. As a reminder, the school’s overall policy is:

Consequences (Pre-K – 3rd grades) Warning 5 Minute Time Out 10 Minute Time Out Lose Computer Privileges Parent Conference *Severe or repeat offenses will skip steps. **Really bad words, inappropriate comments, chewing gum or eating in the computer labs = automatic Full Recess and/or Lunch Detention

Consequences (4th – 8th grades) Warning 2nd and FINAL Warning Full Recess Detention After School/Lunch Detention Parent Conference *Severe or repeat offenses will skip steps. **Apology letters, or copying part of the school handbook may be involved in detention. ***ZERO Tolerance Policies Cussing, fowl language, inappropriate comments, and chewing gum/eating in the computer labs = automatic Full Recess and/or Lunch Detention

Classroom Procedures – During Leaving Log Raise your hand if you need to leave the classroom for any reason. Sign the leaving log (Date, Name, Destination, Time Out) Take the pass with you and don’t forget to return it. When you return hang the pass back up and write what time you returned. Tissues You may get up to get a tissue whenever you need AS LONG AS I AM NOT TEACHING. If I am teaching, wait or raise your hand. Tissues are by the printer and by the door. Use the ones closest to you. Don’t forget hand sanitizer!  Trash You may get up to go to the trash can whenever you need AS LONG AS I AM NOT TEACHING. If I am teaching, wait or raise your hand. Need help? Raise your hand to ask for help and wait to be called on. Do not ask your neighbor for help/help your neighbor unless I have said that is allowed.

Reminders Syllabus will go home in the next couple of weeks after Back to school Night Homework As long as you do your assignments in class and you show good effort with your typing, you will not have technology homework. Open Lab Hour – Wednesdays 2:30 – 3:30 For students in grades 3 – 8. Sorry, younger siblings are not allowed. Priority is given to students who are working on assignments for me but if there are computers available you are welcome to work on assignments for other classes. Coach class is for WORKING on school assignments and for typing practice, not for playing games. DO NOT come to me on the morning an assignment is due, or while I am with a class, and ask to type an assignment or print something. If you need to work on an assignment or print something in the computer lab, you need to PLAN AHEAD to come my Open Lab Hour. If you need to come on a day other than Wednesday, see me WELL ahead of time and we can work together to find a time for you to come.

Any Questions?
