Welcome to Year One! Monday 9th September 2019

Year One 2019-2020 Areas of Provision in the classroom. Support Children with transition from Reception. Children learn best through play. Focused Activities Complete work in small groups; 3 Maths and 3 English throughout the week. Build up throughout the year and by the end of the year the whole class will be working at the same time.

Phonics Phonics sessions are taught daily. Children are split across the 3 classes into different groups. Children take part in a phonics screening test in June- practise reading real and ‘fake’ words to support with this. - A separate Phonics meeting will be held nearer the time to give more information.

Year One Planners School Use: Home Use: We will write a comment when your child has read with an adult. Rainbow Challenge Home Use: Write in when you have heard your child read. Notes about appointments, pick up arrangements, none urgent questions etc. It is your child’s responsibility to show us the note.

Home Learning What home learning will your child receive? When? Spellings that include the 40 common exception words and 100 high frequency words that children should be able to spell by the end of the year. Maths linked to what we have been learning about that week. Sound books only when your child is ready to start phase 5. When? Given out on a Friday and collected in on a Thursday. Spellings will be checked on a Thursday.

Other information PE Day: Tuesday for all classes. Library Days: -Children will be getting changed every week so please encourage and support independent dressing at home. Library Days: Cinnamon (Miss Moss)- Wednesday Coral (Mrs Conahgan)- Friday Copper (Mrs Coulson)- Thursday
