Autumn 2019 Science Maths English Music Autumn 1: Earth and Space By the end of the unit children will be able to: describe the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the sun in the solar system. - Use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night. Autumn 2: Forces By the end of the unit children will have investigated gravity, the effects of air and water resistance and friction. Focus on number and place value. add and subtract whole numbers with more than 4 digits, including using formal written methods (columnar addition and subtraction). multiply numbers up to 4 digits by a one- or two-digit number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers. divide numbers up to 4 digits by a one-digit number using the formal written method of short division and interpret remainders appropriately for the context . solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and a combination of these. identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, and common factors of two numbers. Science Maths By the end of the unit children will have written a newspaper article based on their Dream Big Space topic. Using the text Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, children will study the use of vocabulary to create effect and use a range of tenses to idicate changes in timing, sequence, etc. Children will learn a variety of sentence types to improve the quality of their writing as well as subordinate and relative clauses. In SPaG the children will be improving their punctuation content and recapping adverbials and the use of conjunctions. There will be a focus on reading comprehension using retrieval and inference skills. Guided reading will focus on expressive reading taking account of punctuation. By the end of the unit, children should be able to: locate countries using a world maps and identify human and physical characteristics, topographical features and land use patterns. Develop chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of world history relating to space Geography History The children will learn: how to listen to music and to critically evaluate Holst ‘s ‘Planets’ To understand the geographical origin of the music and in which era it was composed. To experience and learn how to apply key musical concepts/elements, finding a pulse, clapping a rhythm, use of pitch. To develop creativity through improvising and composing in the style of Holst. To recognise the style of the music and to understand its main style indicators. To understand and use general musical vocabulary and specific vocabulary linked to the song . Edit and improve work Evaluate others work Art and Design Music RE - By the end of both units, children should be ale to discuss the importance of religion to a believer and have a good understanding of the Christmas story, and what it means to be a Sikh. PHSE - By the end of the unit, children should be able to explain why they are special and discuss similarities and differences with others. By the end of the term the children should be able to use Century Learning and Purple Mash to support and extend their learning. Children will know how to stay safe online and will have completed topic based research. RE/PSHE Computing
