Flat Roofs Pros: Cons: Waterproof Can add solar panels easily Can act as an outdoor living space Cheap and simple to build Can collect rainwater Should not be used in places with a lot of rain and snow

Gambrel Roofs Pros: Cons: Provides extra living space Its like having an extra story Expensive Difficult to frame Difficult to maintain

Shed/lean to Roofs Pros: Cons: Simple to build Easily shed water and snow Prone to wind damage Can cause some rooms to have a low- ceiling level

Roof Pitch Roof pitch is rise/run The first number is the height The second number is the length The numbers are in inches An example would be a 4/12 pitch is every 12 inches over is 4 inches up, till you get to the ridge point. Ridge point is the peak of the roof

Ridgeline and Ridge point A ridgeline is a line that marks the center of the roof A ridgeline is usually drawn from the center points of the width of the house A ridge point is the peak of the roof, and it helps determine how tall your roof will be. If you have a 24’ building and you want to use a 5/12 pitch, the height of the roof will be 60” What you do is multiply the width of the building with the first number of your pitch, and then divide it by 2 or take half of the width and multiply it by the first number of your pitch
