Welcome to Year 3 Miss Aldred (3A) Mrs Pollington (3P)

Who we are… Mrs Pollington  Mrs Snow Miss Aldred  Mrs Phillips

Cage Green Vision and Values

Year 3 Expectations Independence: children are expected to be more independent in KS2. We provide children with the opportunities to become more responsible, and expect a higher level of independence. Children are expected to take ownership of their learning and be motivated to achieve their full potential. It is a big step from Year 2 to the juniors with the children having to adapt to many changes, such as timetabling.

Year 3 Expectations Attendance: it is so important that children are in school every day that they are able to, and that they arrive on time. This stops them from missing out on their learning. Being ten minutes late every day means that they miss half of their SPaG lesson! This will have a direct impact on their understanding of spelling, punctuation, grammar and will impact their English learning.

All children need their own water bottle in school, every day. Year 3 Expectations Behaviour: we have the highest expectations for behaviour both in and out of class. Children are expected to be kind and respectful to adults and their peers. Snacks / water bottles: children need to bring their own fruit for break time. Break is 10:30-10:45. All children need their own water bottle in school, every day.

Year 3 Expectations Reading Records: in school, every day. Homework: set on a Wednesday, in on a Monday. Homework Club Thursday 12.30 pm to 1 pm Thursday 3.30 pm to 4.15 pm Homework will either be marked in class by the children or answers sent home for you to mark with your child. Reward Systems: both classes have house points, class marble jars and a weekly raffle! Uniform/PE kit - policy included in packs

Year 3 Expectations Reading: Children should read every day to an adult for 15 minutes. The adult should comment and sign the RR. You could just sign, or your child can write in their own RR. Reading Records will be checked and rewards are in place to promote reading for pleasure. We expect children to bring their book and Reading Record in daily and put it in the box in their classroom.

Our Curriculum… English – 2014 Curriculum – emphasis on writing, grammar, spelling, handwriting and reading. Mathematics – 2014 Curriculum- emphasis on number, mental arithmetic, reasoning and problems. - Children also need to be learning their times tables. Science – Kent Advisory Scheme – 2014 Curriculum.

Handwriting As a school, we have adopted a cursive style of writing that the children will be taught throughout the school. Please encourage your child to use the correct formation and not to make joins they have not yet been taught. We have high expectations for presentation in books and want the children to be proud of the work that they produce. All books will have a drawn margin and a written date and WALT. This is then underlined. It may be helpful for you to practice using a ruler to draw a straight line.

Handwriting Expectations

Our Learning Journey The learning journey will provide you with all the information about your child’s learning across the curriculum.

Foundation Subjects PE – taught on Mondays (both classes) and Thursdays (3P). Hair needs to be tied back, earrings removed or will be taped. House coloured t-shirt Full PE kit – including tracksuit, jumper and trousers for winter and socks for children wearing tights. Trainers and/ or plimsolls.

Swimming 3A will be starting swimming tomorrow. 3P will be starting swimming in Term 3. We will be travelling via minibus to Tonbridge swimming pool. Children will need swimming costumes, a towel and, if they wish, goggles. In the first session the children will be assessed by the instructors and placed in appropriate groups based on their experience levels. Responsible adults from school are on the pool-side at all times. There are lockers provided, so there is no need to bring money. Changing will be supervised in the respective changing rooms.
