Objectives: Responsibilities Organizational Meeting Charter Meeting

Responsibilities Official organization of a new local unit shall take place under the guidance and direction of a state representative, normally the District Director. Respond to the request to organize Meet with requestor to discuss the process Overview of PTA Set up Organizational Meeting and Charter Meeting Request Organizational/Charter Package from the state office.

Request to Organize a New Local Unit Anyone can take the first step to organize a PTA but only a board member may conduct the actual chartering of a new local unit. Parents Teachers Principal Community New unit requirements: 25 individuals will to join Commit to the purpose, mission, basic policies and guiding principals of PTA Have individuals willing to serve as officers

Organization of a New Local Unit The actual organization of new local unit is divided into two parts: Organizational Meeting Actual Chartering Meeting

Organizational Meeting Notify Membership Extension Coordinator that there is an interest to organize a local unit Call and request organizational/charter package from the state office Decide on a date & time for the meeting Set up temporary committees: Nominating Committee Bylaws Committee Membership Committee

Charter Meeting Decide on a date & time for the meeting Issue the call announcing the formation of a new PTA/PTSA Vote on motion to organize Presentation by Bylaws Committee Overview of bylaws Vote to accept bylaws Intermission in meeting to allow people to join the local unit (need at least 25 members) Presentation by Nominations Committee Presentation of slate of officers Installation of officers Presentation of Charter Certificate

What Happens After the Meeting? Meet with newly elected officers to go over their responsibilities Complete charter package: Application Incoming officers form Bylaws Collect state & national portion of dues and make sure all forms are complete Mail or hand deliver complete package to the state office.

Additional Requirements AIM Insurance Incorporation Request Additional upcoming training at the council or district level
