ERASMUS + 2017-2019 MY HERO, YOUR HERO, OUR HEROES ROMANIA 18-22/03/2019

- GREEK NATIONAL ANTHEM The word hero comes from the Greek ἥρως (hērōs), "hero" (literally "protector" or "defender"),particularly one such as Heracles with divine ancestry or later given divine honors.  A hero (masculine) or heroine (feminine) (also known as "good guy" or "white hat") is a real person or a main fictional character of a literary work who, in the face of danger, combats adversity through feats of ingenuity, bravery or strength; the original hero type of classical epics did such things for the sake of glory and honor. On the other hand are post-classical and modern heroes, who perform great deeds or selfless acts for the common good instead of the classical goal of wealth, pride and fame.

HEROΕS’ WORSHIP KINDS (IN ANCIENT GREECE) Residential worship Worship of branded Heroes Worship of local Heroes Cults in Bronze Age tombs Worship of fortune tellers heroes Τhe victory in the Olympic Games was particularly important for both the athlete himself and the state. The conquest of the enviable victory gave many privileges to athletes, often honored with prices of kings, generals and even gods.

In Ancient Greece, a hero would be a man that was a warrior or someone who had won the Olympic Games. They were entitled as “HEROES” and the award of a winner, a future hero as they were called, of the Olympics was a laurel (hoop made out of wild olive).

How did we honor our heroes in Ancient Greece? (in the past): In Ancient Greece, the Olympians used to enter their cities by passing a section of the wall that was demolished specifically for this reason. Why? Because the Olympians, as demigods that were considered, it was not right for them to enter the city from the gates that the common mortals were entering.

Nowadays, heroes in Greece are awarded in a quite different way than they did in the ancient years. Heroes are usually awarded by an organism or even the nation. How do we honor our heroes in Greece? (today): It is a fact that we all honor our heroes with many different reasons. Basically, we organize every year very interesting school events. Furthermore, we honor them with wreath depositions, glorifications, commemorations and parades. Moreover, twice a year, we honor our heroes, people that died for the peace in our country, by having a parade. In October 28th we celebrate “NO” that was said by Ioannis Metaxas in 1940 to the Italians, which was later was a war with Germany too, fasism and Adolf Hitler. Another parade we honor our heroes and progones with is in March 25th (1821) for the revolution of the Greeks to the Turkish after 400 years of slavery by them.
