Learning styles are not one size fits all Some of you may find that you identify with more than 1 learning style & that is okay! Here is some info about each style & study tips you can use to help you dominate your school work
Visual Learners: Learn by seeing & looking Take numerous detailed notes Tend to sit in the front Usually neat and clean Often close their eyes to visualize or remember something Find something to watch if they are bored Like to see what they are learning Benefit from illustrations and presentations that use color Are attracted to written or spoken language rich in imagery
Visual Leaners Study Tips Take thorough notes in class or while reading Replace words with symbols, pictures, or initials Highlight your notes & color code them Consistently highlighting certain types of facts in predefined colors will help Visual Learners sort out where facts sit in their heads Use post it notes, notebooks, flashcards
Auditory Learners: Learn by hearing & listening Sit where they can hear but don’t need to pay attention to what is happening in front Hum or talk to themselves or others when bored Acquire knowledge by reading aloud Remember by verbalizing lessons to themselves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8YolsnHbFc
Auditory Leaners Study Tips Study in a quiet space Use mnemonics, rhymes, jingles, and auditory repetition to memorize things When going over your notes, read them out loud Study with a partner or group Ask questions in class & participate in discussions
Kinesthetic Learners: Learn by touching & doing Need to be active and take frequent breaks Speak with their hands and with gestures Remember what was done, but have difficulty recalling what was said or seen Find reasons to tinker or move when bored Sit near the door or someplace else where they can easily get up and move around Communicate by touching and appreciate physically expressed encouragement, such as a pat on the back
Kinesthetic Leaners Study Tips Use flashcards Writing down the info & flipping the cards helps you remember info Chew gum (if you are in a place where this is allowed) Study standing up instead of sitting down Keep your hands busy For example, trace words and re-write sentences to learn key facts. Typing your notes and using the computer is another great way to reinforce learning through sense of touch.
