Eligibility Current year 2 students on the following programmes History History & Philosophy History & Politics History & Sociology History & Global Sustainable Development You must have achieved a 2.1 (60%) or above in the first year Non-language joint honours students may be eligible to apply through their other department as well / instead Language Joint honours students must apply through their other department

Eligibility Students applying for the Erasmus+ scheme must meet the citizenship requirements See the International Student Office for further information All students must meet the visa requirements (if applicable) for their chosen country

How it works An “intercalated” year at a partner university in another country An additional year – making your degree a four-year course Credits do not count towards your degree overall, but will appear on your HEAR as pass/fail Competitive Application Process

Learning Outcomes for the History Year Abroad On completion of this year students will have: Broadened their knowledge and understanding of their subject specialism(s); Developed the qualities and transferable skills necessary for working or studying in another country and in a different academic system; Developed enhanced oral and written language skills through the demands of study in a different country; Developed transferable skills in sensitivity to diversity in terms of culture and inter-cultural competencies.

Assessment of the Year Abroad You must pass the year by the standards of the host institution You will submit a reflective assignment at the end of the year, which will be marked as pass/fail. Choosing a Destination Do your research! Contact the Director of Study Abroad Programmes, your Personal Tutor, the International Student Office, and former Year Abroad students for advice Contact staff in the History department who are from, or who research the country Discuss it with your friends and family Gather as much information as possible about the institution, city, and country you are considering Consider a split year – spending one term (or semester) at one institution, and the other in a different location. Check the term dates at each institution!

Application Process Students informed of outcome of application (including destination allocated) by Friday Week 10, Term 1 Students must confirm their acceptance of their allocated destination by Friday Week 1, Term 2 More meetings for successful applications will take place in Term 2
