Cumberland Community Event Center Repurposing a Community Treasure at No Cost to the City

Who We Are Our Goals Short-term Long-term Non-profit organization*, established in 2018, led by a 5-member board. Formed to implement the 2017 recommendations of the City’s Historic Properties Ad Hoc Workgroup. * 501c3 application in process, currently working through the Parks & Recreation Foundation to receive contributions. Our Goals Short-term Execute agreement with City of Albany to allow Cumberland building to be moved to City-owned land adjacent to Habitat ReStore. Complete planning & design for relocation and renovation. Secure funding for the relocation and renovation activities. Relocate the building. Create business plan to ensure self-sufficient maintenance & operation. Long-term Complete building renovations & initiate facility start-up. Establish organization to manage facility operations. Create a foundation to grow endowment fund. To supplement revenue generated from ongoing operations. To fund children’s scholarships.

Benefits to the City Without the use of taxpayer funds: Resuscitate two idle, City-owned land parcels: 4th & Main can be sold. Santiam & Pine becomes an asset to the community. Create a not-for-profit event center in East Albany to host youth and family-oriented activities and events. Enhance the functionality and safety of the adjacent Hackleman Park. Establish an attractive and historic gateway to the Hackleman Historic District and east Albany. Revitalize the Hackleman & Willamette River East neighborhoods. Supports Comprehensive Plan’s goal of developing great neighborhoods.

Relocate the structure from City-owned property at 4th & Main to City-owned property at Santiam & Pine (500 feet)
