Paine History in 802.11 Assigned “Wireless Technologies” at Boeing in 1993 Demoed proprietary wireless LANs in 94, 95, and 96 Started attending IEEE 802.11 in 1996 (when FCC released UNII) First Boeing requirement – greater speed than 802.11 Boeing has requirements for 3D CAD on the factory floor Worked as administrative help when it was all paper Authored the first drafts of PAR and 5 Criteria of High Speed 5GHz Helped with first drafts of 802.11a specification Liaison from 802.11 to ETSI BRAN to propose common PMD Requirements submissions for 802.11i, 802.11f, and WNG Worked in these task groups until RRM RRM most important task in 802.11 outside of security Can make 802.11 a world force 802.11k will ensure the future of 802.11 by allowing knowledge Richard Paine, Boeing
