Overview Business Needs: Objective: Project Summary: Currently the Public Education Department (PED) does not have a way to effectively deliver school performance information as required to comply with Federal and State law PED is trying to affect educational success in New Mexico by making relevant messaging accessible to school stakeholders in their natural language Objective: Provide interactive tools to NM Parents that deliver meaningful and actionable school performance information to increase parent, family and community engagement in schools across the state. Provide native-speaking voices, (English, Spanish, Navajo), on school grade videos to parents making school grading information more accessible. Project Summary: The PED has contracted (approved 3/13) with RESPEC, to subcontract with 2 vendors: Spotlight and Tembo for the delivery of video-based reporting and interactive dashboard. Parent Report’s, feedback, is already being compiled and shared. The project is underway, working toward our first deliverables and meeting weekly.

Parent Interview Feedback Parent Mindset: Student performance is a bellwether for school performance. School grade report cards are not familiar.  Feedback on Video: In general, parents were receptive to the “informative and interesting” video format. However, the video fell short in communicating important messages and information. Key examples include the following: The video did not clearly communicate that its content involved school, not student, performance. Parents did not understand the overall score nor how the factors comprised it.  The term “Weighted Factors” also generated confusion. The video softens the sense of urgency. Identifying low-performing subgroups caused frustration and misinterpretation.  Additional Feedback: The ‘Call to Action’ resonates with parents Determining the proper amount of information to include remains a challenge

Spanish and English can be selected changing the page language, and once School Performance page is accessed, the video can be played, and Navajo can be selected. For Spotlight the user clicks on a video link from website, from a browser on a pc or mobile URL hits a node on a back-end server on AWS Server pulls down video from Spotlight Video viewed through native cability of browser or device. And of course the player on websites can replay / rewind if desired. Videos hosted in AWS Cloud
