Current entry requirements Scottish Higher: BBBB (QMU) A Level: BCC Irish Leaving Certificate: B2B2B2B2 Direct entrants at year 2 and sometimes year 3 (with relevant HNC/ pre-nursing qualification)
Course Structure (QMU example) 1st Semester 2nd Semester Year 1 Induction and 8 weeks theory in University 7 week community placement 7 weeks theory 9 weeks clinical placement (care of older people) Year 2 8 weeks placement in medical/ surgical area 8 weeks theory 7 weeks placement in medical/ surgical area Year 3 8 weeks in acute care placement 7 weeks in rehabilitation/ long term conditions area Year 4 14 weeks in University 4 weeks University 15 week final placement
Practice Placements 2300 hours in practice placement areas (NMC requirement) Hospital, community, care home, voluntary sector Mentors in practice & clinical supervisors Practice placements in Lothian, Borders or Fife
