A Wonderful Detour Chapters 2 – 7 The true nature and high calling of Christian ministry

Paul’s Description of Ministry (1) The Triumphant nature of ministry The Accredited nature of ministry The Superior nature of ministry The Honest nature of ministry The Suffering nature of ministry The Hopeful nature of ministry

2 Corinthians 5:11-6:10 Ministry (part three) Motivation, Reconciliation & Approved!

The Devoted nature of ministry (11-17) MOTIVATED BY THE FEAR OF THE LORD (11-13) 5:10 “we will all appear before the judgement seat of Christ” Persuade men Vs13 if people think we are crazy, it is for God to judge or it is a matter between God and me, but it is always for the glory of God and for their benefit.

The Devoted nature of ministry MOTIVATED BY THE LOVE OF CHRIST (14-17) Why is Paul driven to live such a selfless life? This should motivate us to live for Christ 2 Consequences: Vs16 Paul ceases to make superficial judgments based upon appearance Vs17 if you are in Christ you are a new creation

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2) It is all about God! All this is from God… vs18 God reconciles us to Himself… vs18, 19 God gives us the ministry of reconciliation vs19

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2) PAUL HAS BEEN GIVEN A MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION (18-19) We cannot be minsters of this reconciliation unless we have first been reconciled to God ourselves The "message of reconciliation" has been committed to us.

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2) PAUL PLEADS WITH THEM TO BE RECONCILED TO GOD (20-21) We plead for God and on Christ's behalf. Jesus became sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2)

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2) PAUL URGES THEM NOT TO RECEIVE GOD'S GRACE IN VAIN (1-2) Paul’s passion… We try to persuade others. vs11 Christ’s love compels us. vs14 We are convinced. vs14 From now on... vs18 We implore you on Christ’s behalf. vs20 As God’s co-workers we urge you. vs1

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2) PAUL URGES THEM NOT TO RECEIVE GOD'S GRACE IN VAIN (1-2) What does that mean? Refusing to purify themselves of everything that can contaminate the body and soul. Allowing a chasm to develop between faith and conduct. Embracing a different Gospel

The Reconciling nature of ministry (5:18-6:2) PAUL URGES THEM NOT TO RECEIVE GOD'S GRACE IN VAIN (1-2) Paul’s appeal is serious and it is urgent. The time is now, today, nhasi. There is great danger if you delay. Do we sense the urgency of the times?

The Approved nature of ministry (3-10) Paul’s deep desire not to get in the way of the people hearing and receiving the Gospel. He does not want to discredit his God-given ministry. The life of a Christian minister should be the most attractive advert for the Gospel.

The Approved nature of ministry (3-10) To what does Paul point to as accrediting his ministry? Vs4 Paul talks about conditions and situations he found himself in. Vs5 Paul talks about things that were done to him by other people. Vs6b-7 Paul conducted himself when in these situations..

The Approved nature of ministry (3-10) Glory Good reports Genuine Known Living Not killed Always rejoicing Making many rich Possessing everything Dishonour Bad reports Imposter Unknown Dying Beaten Sorrowful Poor Having nothing

The Approved nature of ministry (3-10)
