OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT Creating a safe environment in the local community Connecting the police and other stakeholders in a local community and improving their cooperation Enhancing the citizen’s subjective feeling of safety Developing an image of a police officer who is a „friend and a helper”

The Aim of the component; 1. I CAN IF I WANT TO - 1 ( MAH - 1 ) Target group: Fourth elementary school graders The Aim of the component; Sensitize children contact with the police, learning about the protective role of the police, introduction of police officer as their friends and supporters

The Aim of the component; 2. OPPORTUNITIES FAIR Target group: Fifth elementary school graders The Aim of the component; Inclusion of larger number of students in extracurricular activities - “move children from the street”

The Aim of the component; 3. PREVENTION AND ALTERNATIVES - (PIA-1) Target group: Sixth elementary school graders The Aim of the component; Providing the right information about the dangers of drugs and drug addiction - making the right decisions, offering alternatives through sports and other activities

Target group: parents of primary school sixht graders 4. I CAN IF I WANT TO - 2 ( MAH - 2) Target group: parents of primary school sixht graders The Aim of the component; Adopting a positive attitude to the problem of crime is not an exclusive problem of the police, but of the wider community. Police officers at meetings with the parents distributed pamphlets "Together Against Drugs"

Target group: First class - high school graders 5. NO, BECAUSE NO Target group: First class - high school graders The Aim of the component; Consolidating their positive attidute with regard to no use of illegal drugs

6. CRIME PREVENTION COUNCIL The Council was established with a view to finding appropriate solutuions for security and community problems which reduce the quality of life

7. INFORMATION PREVENTION CENTRE Citizens can get expert and sound advice from police officers on different ways of self-protective behaviour and self-protection, in particular advice on tehnical and mehanical protection

8. I UNDERSTAND YOU… The aim of the component; Ensure that police officers who provide safety to all citizens and tourists can be at their disposal and provide bacis information about the City of Zagreb in English

9. LEAFLETS „STAY SAFE WHILE ON VACATION” Leaflet was produced in Croatian and English in cooperation with the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb This leaflet was distributed through the offices of the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb, Zagreb hotels and police station

9. LEAFLETS „SAFE HOME” Leaflet contains advice and instructions for citizens of the City of Zagreb with a view to preventing burglaries into homes during the summer months This leaflet was distributed to 230,000 households in the city of Zagreb with the utilities bill

10. EDUCATIONAL-PREVENTIVE FILM Production of an educational short film on harmful consequence of alcohol consumption The film wil be used as part of the implementation of the components of this project, and also for other activities

EVAULATION EXTERNAL EVALUATION Tena Vukasović Hlupić, PhD Ana Butković, PhD The evaluation was conducted by the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Scineces, University of Zagreb

EVALUATION RESULTS The majority of pupils ( 81 % ) stated that prevention programs carried out by the police influenced their decision not to try drugs.

C O N C L U S I O N S Strong and lasting partnership has been established between the police, civil society organisations and relevant institutions, thus providing for long-term cooperation, and a sistematic and multi-sector approach to problem solving The value of the project was recognised and six years after it started, it was implemented all around the Republic of Croatia
