The Role of the Curriculum Coordinator • To prepare DCA (Dar-ul-Arqam Common Assessment) in Math, Science, Reading, and Social Studies for Grades 3 – 8 for each 9-week in order to excel in the TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills) test • Monitor Teachers, Principals, and Schools for Curriculum Implementation • Schedule and Proctor DCA

Implementation of Curriculum • Deliver necessary knowledge and skills dictated for each grade (PreK – 12 th ) by Texas Education Agency ( known as TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) • For example, in 6th grade Math, there are six (6) objectives covering 13 skill areas. • You are given week-by-week lesson plans or Pacing Guide for the coming year, dividing in 4 – quarters • We want to make sure that all objectives and skill areas are met according to the Pacing Guide

Implementation of Curriculum • Develop a Lesson Plan or Syllabus following the Pacing Guide – Refer to Break-in Session • Provide Lesson Plans to students/parents • Use books and handouts as necessary to develop lesson Plans • Follow Lesson Plans each week • Post in a web site if possible

Review of DCA • In order to be ready for TAKS, we want to prepare students of Dar-ul-Arqam in the coming years • We want to develop an assessment tool called DCA (Dar-ul-Arqam Common Assessment) that is comparable to TAKS • It will help understand the progress on students’ learning of TEKS skills • It will be given in every 9-weeks
