Ontology on clinical processes Exercise 1 Ontology on clinical processes

Agenda: Preliminary studies Ontology model Critical analysis

The disease: 1. Preliminary studies Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a common related disorder which almost always occurs in persons over 50 years old. Symptoms could be: • Hip pain and stiffness • Shoulder pain and stiffness • Muscle pain (minimal, less common than aching) • Fever • Unintentional weight loss • …

The drug – Prednisolon: 1. Preliminary studies The drug – Prednisolon: Prednisolone is a steroid class drug which reduces swelling and decreases the body’s immune response. It is mostly used to treat hormonal disorders, but also allergic and immune disorders. Prednisolone is the main drug used in treatment of PMR.

2. Ontology model The model:

This is the superclass of the actions the doctor can take. 2. Ontology model The classes: Act This is the superclass of the actions the doctor can take. Subclasses: Treatment, Diagnosis Input It’s the superclass about patient information. Subclasses: Symptoms, Patient information, Tests

The different types of drugs can be entered. Disease 2. Ontology model The classes: Drug The different types of drugs can be entered. Disease In this class the diseases are classified. Doctor This class includes an instance for each different type of doctor.

3. Critical analysis Problems: It was difficult to know at which level (how detailed) we should model the ontology. The patient record was huge, and we were not able to get so much information from that.
