The Tundra. Tundra is the coldest of all the biomes. Tundra comes from the Finnish word tunturi, meaning treeless plain. Characteristics of tundra include:
Ecosystems- Characteristics and Cycles
Biomes A major biological community that occurs over a large area of land is called a biome. Seven major biomes cover most of the Earth’s land surface.

Geographic Location Located in northern parts of North America, Europe, and Asia. Usually south of Tudras and north of temperate deciduous forests. Largest land biome on earth. Covers 50 million acres (17% of earth’s land area)

Taiga Temperatures Summer temperatures can reach 50 degrees F Short summers can be 50 to 100 frost free days Winter temperatures can drop to -40 F or lower Up to six months of long severe winters

Animals Wolf Wolverine Weasel Reindeer Squirrel Lynx Bald Eagle Ants Husky

Animals2 Fox Great Horned Owl Lemming Malamute Red-Tailed Hawk Snowy Owl Woodland Caribou

Animals 3 Dale Sheep Badger Canadian goose Ermine Muskrat Scorpion Black Bear Brown Bear

Vegetation- Trees Forest of Coniferous trees. Trees such as birches, alders, spruces, and firs.

Vegetation Has Ericaceous shrubs. Ericaceous means of the Heath family. Continuous carpets of reindeer lichens.

Low evaporation can make this a humid climate. Taiga Precipitation Yearly rain can range from 40 in. to 8 in. depending on where the taiga is located. Low evaporation can make this a humid climate.

The Landforms of the Taiga Biome Done By Devon Engle Taiga in North America once had glaciers, left gouges in the land Swampy moist forest, many trees Ex. Spruce, Fir Woodland scattered with trees, bare rocks and shrubs

Places of interest Rocky Mountains Called the Rockies Located in Canada Lies between interior plains on the east and topography that separates it from mountain ranges

Places of interest Niagara Falls Niagara falls is one of the largest waterfalls Located in Canada A very beautiful place to visit

Come on down! These are all reasons to see this forest! this woodland has many animals Lovely scent of the piney air Lush forest with many trees One of the biggest forests around These are all reasons to see this forest!
