Down the Upper Columbia River live white sturgeon. This is the story of a little Sturgeon and how it lived. Once there was a big mom sturgeon. It was spawning season and she was going to release her eggs. So the mom sturgeon released her eggs. There all the eggs went thousands! These mom sturgeon can have up to 1 million chocolate brown, gooey eggs. Thats a lot. The eggs sink to the bottom, and the goo helps them stick to the rocks. Now not all the eggs made it to the bottom. Cause can you imagine you re favorite food just free and you could just eat as much as you wanted?

The fish sure could and they gobbled up lots of the eggs. But with 1 million eggs, don t you think at least some would make it? o.k. lets get back to the story. So all those eggs are sinking to the bottom. 1,2,3 hundred a fish named Whitey counted.1 trout ate 2. This one egg was even more brown and even more gooey. The egg was well, different. There went that one different egg. All the other eggs were the same. Finally that egg was at the bottom. And thats how that sturgeons life began.

After 1 week the eggs started hatching and so did that different egg. After 1 week of looking for a hiding place the fish that came out of the different egg named herself, Swimy. Swimy found a good hiding place. Swimy was swimming with two sisters, when suddenly she didn't see them anymore. Then she saw a big shadow. Swimy was only a newborn, so she was only two inches long. So a trout was huge to her. Swimy didn't know what to do! Then she saw her hiding place. Swimy quickly swam to her hiding place and hid! Luckily the trout didn't see where she swam and happily kept swimming.

Wow Swimy thought I swam just in time. Swimy got comfortable because as a newborn sturgeon she had to stay in her hiding place for 25 days. She wouldn't starve because she has a yolk sack. I know it sounds funny but if she wouldnt have a yolk sack she will starve. The yolk sack has food in it. So the baby sturgeon dont have to look for food for the first 25 days.

You know how I said swimmy was 2 inches well sturgeon can grow up to 6 meters. But these sturgeon eat a lot.that's how they grow so big. After 24 days Swimy was still sleeping tomorrow her life in the river would BEGIN!

Swimy swam out of her hiding place. First of all swimy was hungry. Swimy went to the bottom of the river and found some little water bugs she then Ate the bugs then started swimming down the river. The current was heavy.

Many years past swimy grew up to 6 feet long. Now swimy was a mom. It was spawning season and she was going to release her eggs. she released her eggs. There they the same way as with swimys Mom. The same story will happen with 1 of her eggs just like this one!
