What is Wisdom? Where shall it be found? Will it solve the mysteries of Life which brings us nearer to God? The answer is "Yes," Surah Luqman

Ayats What is the Book of Wisdom? The Quran is the Book of wisdom and a blessing for the righteous. It is a Guide and a Mercy to men, and teaches them how to attain Bliss. God's Mercies are infinite: how can man deny them? Losers- When Our revelations are recited to such a person, he turns his face away in arrogance as if he did not hear them or as if his ears are sealed: announce to him the news of a painful punishment. Winners: For those who believe and do good deeds, there will be gardens of delight. Allahs Creation: He created the heavens without visible pillars; He set mountains on the earth lest it should shake with you; and scattered through it all kinds of animals. We send down rain from the sky with which We grow every type of noble species in pairs. What can their idols create?

Luqmân(as)'s Advice to his Son The Qurân contains ten precious advices Luqmân offered his son. Following is the list of this advice offered to Muslims. If this valuable advise is followed and implemented then we will all be on the straight Path leading to Paradise.

1. Luqmân warns his son against the greatest injustice man can do. "O my son! Join not in worship others with Allâh. Verily, joining others in worship with Allâh is a great injustice indeed." [31:13] Luqmân calls his son: "My Son". To do so catches his son's attention so that he may listen carefully to his father. Then he calls his son's attention to Tawhid. "Shirk," Luqmân said:" Is a great injustice indeed ". Therefore, the one who associates others with Allâh in worship does injustice to Allâh, the owner and Creator of the universe. He subjects himself to Allâh's anger and eternal punishment in Hell.

2. Luqmân reminds his son of the rights of his parents on him, "and We have enjoined on man to be dutiful and good to his parents. His mother bore him upon weakness and hardship" [31:14] "And his weaning is in two years, give thanks to Me and to your parents. Unto Me is the final destination." [ 31:14] He describes hardships mothers face bearing children. Luqmân mentions the total dependence of infants on their mothers for two years. Thank Allâh, and then your parents. "And if they both strive with you to make you join in worship with me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not, but behave with them in the world kindly." [31:15] Luqmân tells his son that if the parents are Mushrikîn, then do not follow their way: Allâh's right comes first by far. Even so. for as long as the live, treat your Mushrik parents with kindness.

3. Luqmân then describes some of Allâh's Might. "O my son! If it be equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, and tough it be as a rock, or in the Heavens or the earth, Allâh will bring it forth. Verily Allâh is subtle in bringing out that grain, well aware of its place." [31:16] Allâh's Knowledge is so perfect that the existence of anything, big or small, is acknowledged and controlled by Him. Luqmân tries to impress his son reminding him of Allâh's absolute control over His kingdom. Such might and power must not be challenged or ignored by anyone.

4. A great advice to Luqman's son is to establish regular prayer, on time and with the best possible performance, "O my son! Offer prayer perfectly." [31:17] Prayer is the direct connection between a Muslim and his Creator. We must take great care to establish prayer.

5. Luqmân advises his son to "enjoin (people) for good, and forbid from evil." [31:17] If every Muslim observes this duty, then evil and mischief will have no place in Muslim society.

6. After the useful advice he offered his son, Luqmân recommended patience in implementing them, and in all matters of life, "And bear with patience whatever befalls you. Verily, these are some of the important commandments ordered by Allâh with no exemption." [31:17] Patience is a righteous act ordered, and rewarded by Allâh.

7. Arrogance is an attribute of Allâh alone and not for man. The Creator and Owner of the universe is the only One who deserves to be Arrogant. Allâh threatens arrogant people with punishment in Hellfire. Luqmân said: "And turn not your face away from men with pride." [31:18]

8. To be moderate is a great attitude anyone can possess, "Nor walk in insolence through the earth. Verily Allâh likes not each arrogant boaster." [31:18] Allâh does not like that man is arrogant and proud of themselves.

9. To be moderate in walking and talking "And be moderate (or show no insolence) in walking." [31:19] Islâm offers a code of conduct in every aspect of life. Even the way Muslims walk and talk are regulated. Islam offers guidelines in this regard that will produce the best behavior and generate respect.

10. Luqmân reminds his son that being harsh while talking will liken his voice to the braying of a donkey. Shouting does not win hearts, rather, it will offend and alienate people. "And lower your voice. Verily the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying] of an ass!!" [31:19] Luqmân shows great wisdom in his advice to his son. If we implement these advises, then by Allâh's permission our Ummah will be successful.

God's Wisdom and Law [31:20-24] The second logical proof is then mentioned in verse 20, where Allah says, Do you not see that Allah has subjugated for you whatever in the heavens and the earth... Everything is in Allahs control. Therefore, He is Able to make everything subservient to man. This, and every other bounty is solely from Allah. Therefore, all supplications should only be directed to Him. Then Allah rebukes those people who, after hearing all the proofs, still refuse to accept. Allah then says about them, When they are told, Follow what Allah has revealed, they say, We want to rather follow what we found our forefathers doing. [verse 21] What! Will they still follow them even though Shaitãn invites them to the punishment of the blazing fire.

Ayats 25-30: Allah then presents another logical proof when he says, Undoubtedly If you ask them who created the heavens and the earth, they will certainly reply, Allah! [verse 25] The next proof follows in verse 26, where Allah says, To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth... Since everything belongs to Him, Only He can be the Master and Protector. If all the trees on earth were pens, and the ocean were ink, replenished by seven more oceans, the writing of Allahs Words (His wonderful signs and creations) would not be exhausted; surely Allah is Mighty Wise.[27] Allah says therein that His knowledge is so vast that they cannot be recorded even if all the trees of the world were to become pens and if seven times the capacity of all the oceans were to become ink. Even if all these were depleted, they will never be able to record the wealth of Allahs knowledge.

The next proof is then mentioned in verse 29, where Allah says, Do you not see that Allah enters the night into the day... In proving that Allah controls the affairs of the universe, Allah impresses upon man that Only He should be regarded as man s deity. This is because Allah is the Truth... [verse 30] This verse is a somewhat detailed gist of the above proofs. Since it has been established that Allah is the Only True Deity and True Benefactor, it follows that Only He can come to man s assistance. Therefore, He is the Truth and all the other gods are false. The next logical proof follows in verse 31, where Allah says, Do you not see that the ships... By His special grace, Allah allows huge ships to travel on the seas and He returns them to the shore. Allah then rebukes the Mushrikeen in verse 32. Allah says that they sincerely call unto Allah for assistance when they are threatened with shipwreck at sea. However, when Allah rescues them and returns them to dry land, then, although many still worship Allah, most of them still adhere to their ways of shirk.

Verse 33 warns people about the severity of the Hereafter, while verse 34 proceeds to mention the eighth logical proof, which negates shirk in knowledge. In this concluding verse of the Surah, Allah mentions five factors (called the keys of the unseen ), which Only He has knowledge of. These are: > When Qiyamah will take place. > When rain will fall, and how much will fall. > What lies in the womb i.e. Only He knows the details of the child like it s complexion, gender, character, etc. > What will happen tomorrow.
