3 Managers and Leaders Managers have employees –Managers have employees – Managers respond to change –Managers respond to change – Managers implement them –Managers implement them – Managers communicate –Managers communicate – Managers control groups –Managers control groups – Managers try to be heroes –Managers try to be heroes – Managers focus on functions –Managers focus on functions – Managers do things right –Managers do things right – Leaders win followers. Leaders create it. Leaders have good ideas. Leaders persuade. Leaders create teamwork. Leaders create heroes all around them. Leaders focus on relationships. Leaders do the right things. These are separate but complementary skill sets. Organizations need both.

4 Management and Leadership Tools Managers use tools to accomplish tasks. Leaders inspire people to go after goals.
