AIM OF THE STUDY Effect of restricted feed intake (after V2) in immunocastrates /comparison to ad libitum fed boars and surgical castrates/ on performance carcass traits meat quality

88 pigs - LN×LW×PI 4 treatment groups individual housing ad libitum feeding: SC, EM, IC_L, IC_R restricted feed intake (80% of SC) MATERIAL AND METHODS - 1 SC, n=22 EM, n=24 IC_L, n=21 IC_R, n=21

Traits of interest: DG, FI, FCR carcass traits meat quality traits Immunocastration effectivness: boar taint compounds (A, S), reproductive organs Ante-mortem stress: carcass lesions MATERIAL AND METHODS - 2

no differences between IC_L and IC_R IC intermediate between EM and SC, which differed significantly. MEAT QUALITY b aaa a abbb a b a b

Conclusion Results of this study suggest some benefits in terms of performance and carcass quality, when feed restriction is applied to IC after the active immunisation.
