8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 7 If you click on the yellow question mark with the square page icon, it opens a new web page and leaves the current IBIS page open.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 8 If you mouse- over the blue question mark in the bubble, you’ll get some brief pop-up help text.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 9 Click on the measure you wish to query. In this example, we have selected Leading Causes of Death by Count.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 10 You must agree to the “Appropriate Data Use Agreement” – 1. You will not attempt to identify individuals represented in the data, and 2. If you inadvertently identify someone, you will inform the NMDOH.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 11 Build your query by clicking on steps, using either the top bar or the step bars, and making selections. Default values for that step are described below the blue bar, and pre-selected within the step. If the default selection for a step is acceptable, you may skip the step. Or at each step, you may select how to group values or how you want to filter the data.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 12 Click on the blue bar for Step 1, then click on your selection. In this example, we have selected all years.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 13 Click on the blue bar for Step 2, then click on your selection. In this example, we have used the default, age adjustment age groups.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 14 Click on the blue bar for Step 3, then click on your selection. In this example, we have used the default, both male and female.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 15 Click on the blue bar for Step 4. Scroll over the blue question mark to see a description of race/ethnicity coding in New Mexico, which may be different from other states.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 17 Click on the blue bar for Step 5, then click on your selection. Because we are looking at mortality data and sometimes non-residents die in New Mexico and vice versa, IBIS allows you to choose a filter based on residency. In this example, we have used the default, New Mexico residents (regardless of where they expired).

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 18 Click on the blue bar for Step 6. This selection determines whether the data will be displayed by region or by county if you select “Geographic Area” in Step 7. If you wish to view county data for all counties, simply click on the County button on this step.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 19 If you wish to view data for one county, click on the county button and scroll down and select that county. If you wish to view data for a few counties, click on them while holding down your Control [Ctrl] key. In this example, we have used the default, all health regions.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 20 Click on the blue bar for Step 7 to determine how you would like to display your results, then click on your selections. The selections available will vary based on the measure and selections in previous steps. In this example, we have used the default, no grouping of column values, and have chosen to show the results in a vertical bar graph.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 21 Your selections and filters are documented at the top of the results page. Below that, the graph is displayed. Scroll down to view the data values.

8/6/08 New Mexico Department of Health 22 You will see the Data List with detailed information for each subgroup you selected. If you selected 2 cross-variables in Step 7, you will also have a Data Table with the specified columns and rows. Scroll down to view more info.
