Nationally, combined loss ratio is 115% - year ending 2010 CA, combined loss ratio is 126% - year ending 2010 Claim frequency is starting to increase for first time in ten years Avg. indemnity claim cost (CA) is $61K – year ending 2010 After the 2004 WC reform, the avg. indemnity claim was $38K Avg. indemnity claim has increased $23K in five years Avg. medical cost on indemnity claim is $43K After 2004 WC reform, the avg. medical was $25K State of WC

Avg. medical cost on indemnity claim has increased $18K in five years Capacity is being reduced, due to carriers loss ratios and their loss reserves Rates are 63% less than what they were before the 2004 reforms Rates for most class codes are increasing, but different carriers are doing different things Some carriers are still reducing rates, while some are taking significant rate increases WC market can best be described as schizophrenic Best to plan on WC rates increasing for indefinite future – avg 15% per year State of WC
