Objectives When the learners finish learning this unit, they should be able to providing information on the business media collecting information on the business media

Warming up: This section provides a short list of the principal types of media, and the different forms of information that they provide the teacher may bring in examples of publications and video or audio material or you could ask students to close their books and fill the gaps in the photocopiable exercise on page 75 after listening to the cassette version.

Skill Writing: write a scenario for a product or service. Reading: sacrilege Listening: Designing a television commercial

Business Communication Give a brief summary of your texts and decide on the order in which they would appear in a radio news report.

Lead in This listening passage gives an introduction to the Bloomberg organization featured in the reading text. Bloomberg provides a wide variety of media services to the business community. Four of these services are described in this interview.

Language Focus Could have + past particle We use could hate + past participle to express an opinion about a past action, and describe a possible alternative that was not taken. 1. She came at 10 o’clock. 2.She could have come earlier. 3.I went to Spain on holiday. 4.I could have gone to Portugal for the same price. We can also use could have + past participle to express a criticism of something that someone has done. 1. You could have told me that you were going to take a day off.

First and second conditional A. If you transfer your money to a deposit account, you’ll earn more interest. B. If I had more money, I’d invest it on the Stock Exchange. 1.Sentence A is an example of the first conditional. The conditional clause refers to a situation that may possibly happen. 2.Sentence B is an example of the second conditional. The conditional clause refers to a situation that is unlikely to or is unreal to happen.

Nouns Proper nouns Proper nouns refer to people or places which are unique: they begin with a capital letter. Philip Morris is a very famous company. Plural names ,public institutions and newspapers take the definite article.

Common nouns Most common nouns are countable and can take an indefinite, definite or no article depending on the context. We bought a new computer. Some common nouns are uncountable and take a singular verb form. They cannot take the indefinite article. Nouns ending in –ics are often singular. Some common nouns have only a plural form and take a plural verb. Some nouns can have both a countable and an uncountable form: Time experience adventure age authority chocolate fruit life
