The responsible person is willing to go the extra mile, whether that is to get a task done, to help another person, or to do a job one more time so that it is exactly right. Being responsible is not easy. It is tough to consistently work hard and do whatever it takes. Responsibility sometimes appears confining and limiting, but in the end it is freeing. Responsibility is like a walk in the woods on an unfamiliar path; you know it ends because others have walked it. But it seems to go on and on and youd much rather just get off or take a shortcut where there is no path. Like wandering off the trail in a deep forest, the dangers in shirking responsibilities are often not seen until it is too late. Character develops over time; each little act of responsibility leads to stronger character and the ability to face harder and more difficult challenges. Responsibility

Doing Whatever It Takes Briefing: In this activity your team will have an opportunity to create a safe haven for descending eggs. Procedure: Your team has been given one hard-boiled egg, 24 drinking straws, and 4 of masking tape. You are to create a protective device that will protect your egg from breaking when dropped repeatedly from different heights. Rules: 1.Designs may not be altered once testing begins. 2.The team whose egg is the last to crack is the winner. If two eggs crack at the same height then it is a tie.

Thinking About It... 1.How did your team decide on a design? 2.Were you in agreement with your design or did you just go along with the group? 3.How did you decide whose design to use? 4.How did you feel when your egg broke? 5.Did you wish you could start over once you saw others designs? 6.Being responsible means that we are responsible for things and for people. How is this related to people? 7.What happens when you let someone down? How do you feel? 8.Who are the people in your life that you may be responsible for? 9.How can you take care of these people?

Journal 14 Think about yourself and being responsible. How responsible are you? What do you do or not do that makes you responsible or irresponsible? Describe a time when you had to go the extra mile or had to do something extra to get a job done. How did you feel when you finished? Who do you know who is responsible? What do they do that makes them responsible? What could you do to become more responsible? Who is affected by your responsibility or your lack of responsibility?
