I’m A Christian Because: Not one reason would be sufficient to answer this statement. So there are several reasons. Here are a few:

I’m a Christian Because of My Parents If this were the only reason, it would be completely inadequate. There are many people who cannot claim this as a reason for their faith. However, it cannot be dismissed that I’m a Christian today because my parents instilled in me a love for God and His word (Proverbs 22:6). “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

I’m a Christian Because of My Parents Christianity is a taught religion (Romans 10:17) “For faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” and I happen to have been taught by my parents (2 Timothy 1:5) just like Timothy “For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grand-mother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well”. If you have children, and you want them to be Christians, then teach them to be Christians (Ephesians 6:4).”And, fathers, do not provoke your cuildren to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”.

I’m a Christian Because of the Evidence The evidence for God’s existence is overwhelming (Romans 1:20) “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse”.

I’m a Christian Because of the Evidence ”.and the evidence that the Bible is God’s word (2 Timothy 3:16-17) “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work”. is equally convincing. We have, unfortunately, been told that faith and evidence have nothing to do with one another. God disagrees, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).

I’m a Christian Because I Don’t Want to Go to Hell When I was baptized into Christ, my primary motivation was fear. I was terrified at the prospect of spending an eternity in hell. Many might say that’s an improper motivation. However, the Psalmist says that “fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Psalm 111:10).

I’m a Christian Because I Don’t Want to Go to Hell Fear shouldn’t remain our primary motivation, but when a person learns he has sinned and deserves to spend eternity in hell (Romans 3:23; “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”), he ought to be afraid. A non-Christian ought to be terrified when he reads, “…when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus” (2 Thessalonians 1:7b-8).

I’m a Christian Because I Want to go to Heaven Salvation is one of the greatest motivations. Not just salvation from hell, but salvation to heaven. Jesus Christ is “the way” to heaven (John 14:6) “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one comes unto the Father but through Me”. He is the ONLY way.

I’m a Christian Because I Want to go to Heaven I want to spend eternity in heaven. Not because of what will be there, but because of Who will be there. I want to go to heaven because that’s where my Lord is. It is also the place where all faithful Christians will go, and I will be in good company.

I’m a Christian Because I Love God Over the years, my love for God grows stronger and stronger, but it has always been at the core of why I’m a Christian. How could you not love a God who would send His Son to die so you could live (John 3:16)? “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life”.

I’m a Christian Because I Love God 1 John 4:10 says, “In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. Romans 5:8

I’m a Christian Because Christianity Works The Christian life is the only life that works. In fact, every formula and plan of God works. When I see non-Christians, stuck in a cycle of self-destructive behavior, I want to ask, “How’s that life working for ya?” We see many heading for destruction who will not listen, and we just wait for their disaster, and think: “I told you so”.

I’m a Christian Because Christianity Works When a person actually lives out the principles of Christianity, they have an abundant life (John 10:10). “The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly”. That doesn’t mean it is a life free of storms. But, it is the only life that gives you peace in the midst of the storm (Matthew 7:24-27) The wise builder and the unwise builder.

I’m a Christian Because it Gives Me A Purpose People in the world are always asking, “What’s my purpose?” I feel so sorry for anyone who has to ask that question. (romans 14:7) “For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself;” I have found my purpose. My purpose is to bring glory to my heavenly Father (1 Corinthians 10:31). “Whether, then, you eat or drink for whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” Being a child of God gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning.

I’m a Christian Because it Gives Me A Purpose It gives me a mission. If God did not exist, if heaven were a fairytale, and if Jesus hadn’t died for our sins there would be absolutely no purpose in life. As it is, there’s something inside each of us that longs for significance, purpose, and meaning (evidence that there is more to the world than just the physical). Being a Christian is the only thing that gives this life any meaning at all!

CONCLUSION I am sure that we can come up with many other reasons for why you or I have become Christians. This is a subject we need to consider daily in our lives and minds. By doing so, we will keep the focus upon Christ, God, heaven, faith in our lives. Are you a Christian?
