We have been finding out about ‘Recycling in Leeds.’ Calverley Parkside Primary School

There are eight recycling sites situated throughout the city of Leeds.

At these sites you can re-use, recycle or throw away household waste.

The sites are open all year round. In Winter they open from 8am to 4pm and in Summer from 8am to 6pm.

Our supermarkets also have smaller recycling sites for: paper, glass, textiles, food and drink cans, as well as plastic bottles.

Each household in Leeds has three different dustbins.

Green – for recycling (cardboard, paper, cans, foil, plastic.) Brown – for garden waste. Black – for general household waste.

In Leeds we are definitely getting better at recycling our waste. In 2006 only 20% was recycled. By 2013 the figure was 40%. The target for 2016 is 55%.

At school we do our bit to help too!

We have recycling bins.

We collect water and compost for our school gardens.

We use our art and DT lessons to turn ‘old junk’ into ‘new treasures’!

What do you do to help your city recycle?
