Presentation transcript:

One Cannot be Taught Wrong and Baptized Right Every baptism is not approved by Christ

Error does not Produce Truth Matthew 7:13-20 Wrong road does not lead to the right place False prophets do not yield truth, 7:15-16 Bad tree does not yield good fruit, 7:17-18 Fresh water does not yield bitter (Jas. 3:11-12) “Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.” False doctrine does not produce gospel obedience

False Charge against churches of Christ “…they claim that if you’re not baptized by one of their ministers, that you’re doomed to hell, even if you’re a believer in Jesus Christ…” -Baptist Pastor Tom Rukala CNN, aired March 27, 2006

What we Advocate Baptism must be by the authority of Jesus Christ Authorized baptism will save the lost Authorized baptism is approved by God and acceptable to God (Matt. 28:18-19)

Faith comes by hearing God’s word (Rom. 10:17) Only when we hear & believe the right word will we have true faith that leads to true obedience of Christ and salvation from our sins (Acts 4:12)

Different faiths cannot be from the same Lord or command same baptism Ephesians 4:5 “…one Lord, one faith, one baptism…” gave commands Different faiths cannot be from the same Lord or command same baptism

False Doctrine Does Not Produce True Obedience and Salvation Another Faith Salvation by “faith only” Not the “one baptism” of Ephesians 4:5 Gal. 1:6-7

False Doctrine Does Not Produce True Obedience and Salvation Another Jesus “Spirit-child in pre-mortal existence” 2 Cor. 11:4 2 Jno. 7, 9-11 Does not “put on Christ” Gal. 3:27

False Doctrine Does Not Produce True Obedience and Salvation Another Faith about Sin “Original, inherited sin” Rom. 5:12 Acts 2:36-38 Does not “wash away sins” Rom. 6:1-4; Acts 22:16

False Doctrine Does Not Produce True Obedience and Salvation Another Faith about Salvation “Exaltation in a celestial kingdom” Mk. 16:16 Acts 16:30-34 Does not save 1 Pet. 3:21

False Doctrine Does Not Produce True Obedience and Salvation Another Faith about Church “Join the church of your choice” Eph. 4:4 Acts 8:12; 2:47 Not into “one body” 1 Cor. 12:13

“In the name of Jesus Christ” is by the authority of Christ Authority that Validates Baptism “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” (Matt. 21:23) Heaven or Men? JESUS CHRIST Matt. 28:18-20; Col. 3:17 Acts 2:38; 8:16; 10:48; 19:5; 1 Cor. 1:13-16 “In the name of Jesus Christ” is by the authority of Christ

Authority that Validates Baptism “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” (Matt. 21:23) John and Jesus Acts 19:1-5 John’s “baptism of repentance for the remission of sins” no longer valid (Mk. 1:4) Those with invalid baptisms were then baptized “in the name of the Lord Jesus”

Authority that Validates Baptism “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?” (Matt. 21:23) Misuse of authority invalidates action, Acts 19:11-17 Paul had authority to work miracles, 19:11-12 Those who had no authority, failed, 19:13-16 Display of true authority caused “the name of the Lord Jesus” to be greatly honored, 19:17

BAPTISM IS NOT AUTHORIZED OR APPROVED BY… A denomination, because their existence is not authorized by Christ, Col. 3:17 A council of men, because the council is not authorized by Christ, Col. 3:17 A creed written by men, because the creed is not authorized by Christ, Col. 3:17

“Every plant which My heavenly BAPTISM IS NOT AUTHORIZED OR APPROVED BY… “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into the ditch.” -Matthew 15:13-14-

BAPTISM IS NOT AUTHORIZED OR APPROVED BY… The church of Christ! Christians merely preach the gospel that contains God’s authority (Matt. 28:18-20) The Lord adds the saved to His church when the gospel is obeyed (Acts 2:47)

Christ is Not Divided (1 Cor. 1:13) CHRIST’S AUTHORITY FOR BAPTISM Christ does not accept divided baptisms that come from divided doctrines!

Christ Does Not Accept the Baptisms of Denominations 1 Cor. 1:12: “I was baptized in the ______ Church” Matt. 7:21-23: Jesus will say… “I never knew you…depart from Me…”

CHRIST’S AUTHORITY FOR BAPTISM GOSPEL OF CHRIST 1 Cor. 1:13, 17 (Matt. 28:18-20) Correct authority must approve baptism for it to have Christ’s saving power

One Baptism, Eph. 4:5 If you were not baptized by the authority of Jesus then you are not yet saved by Jesus If you were baptized after being taught false doctrine by a false church, then your baptism was not approved by Christ You are still in your sins You need to be baptized in the name of Jesus (cf. Acts 18:8; 19:5)

1 Peter 3:21 Water baptism in the name of Jesus (by His authority) to be saved from sins is the response of a good conscience that craves to be right with God There is one Lord who gave us one faith and commands one baptism (Eph. 4:5) Get right with God now!
