Teachers and administrators from 14 countries have completed professional development programmes at AKU-IED

Overview of AKU-IED, EA Established in 2006 Is the outcome of the successes of AKU- IED, Pakistan and the Professional Development Centre (PDC), Lead-in project in EA Based in Dar es Salaam but offers programmes in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya Registered with the Tanzanian Commission for Universities

Goal To contribute to improving the quality of education in the region by creating a scholarly centre of excellence in teacher education and professional development in Sub-Saharan Africa

Guiding principles Access, relevance, positive impact and high quality Teachers and educational leaders are central to the improvement of quality in education. Not a mass provider of education but will work with and through governments and other education systems/institutions.

Master in Education Two - year, full-time programme Targets teachers and educational leaders at all levels Specialisation – Teacher Education & Educational Leadership & management

Certificate Programmes Target – teachers, heads/aspiring heads, educational leaders, teacher educators, education officers, inspectors etc Wide range of courses Contextually appropriate Field-based Spread over 6 months – 3200 hrs Face-to-face (at present)
