Milton Glaser's CON group By: Samantha Kepler & Kiran Dhillon

Milton Glaser himself! Milton Glaser’s “Van Gogh Estate”

Born 1929 He was educated at High School of Music and Art and the Cooper Union Art School in New York Founded New York Magazine with Clay Feckler in 1968 Established Milton Glaser inc. in 1974 One of the most celebrated graphic designers 2004-selected for a lifetime achievement award of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum BACKGROUND

More Background.... Prolific creator Most of Glaser's work can be seen in museums all over the world; his one-man shows at both the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York

So what are we up here for?

To help you see why this poster does NOT belong in the ADAC Hall Of Fame. To help you see why this poster does NOT belong in the ADAC Hall Of Fame

So what’s wrong with it?.... Well… for starters, it wasn’t even Glaser’s idea!!!

Con Argument 1. Glaser’s “Van Gogh Estate” corresponds with Belgian artist Rene Magritte’s “This is not a pipe” painting.

Some things have been mirrored between the two pieces of work… This makes the piece UNORIGINAL…

So what else?... Con Argument 2. The message is unclear to those who don’t know art history. ? ? ?

Glaser’s message= Magritte’s message...So, how many of you know of Magritte and his work????

Most art historians have the advantage of easily deciphering Glaser’s message

CON ARGUMENT #3 FUNKY LAYOUT!!!!!!!  Contrast  Layout stinks  Color didn’t work well with the rest of the poster

Upon this analysis, we found Glaser’s poster to… 1. Correspond strongly with work by Magritte 2. Convey an unclear message 3. Have a funky layout/composure

…and to not be suitable to include in the ADAC Poster Hall of Fame…

Power Point created by “Van Gogh Estate” CON team: Samantha Kepler Kiran Dhillon
