CFANS Undergraduate Strategic Plan Campus Culture Transformation Task Force Members Mike White (co-Chair), Beth Mercer-Taylor (co-Chair), Paul Porter, Len Ferrington, Joel Nelson, Susan VonBank, Susan Seltz, Kate Knuth, Luke Nichols, Rob Bauer, Grant Wilson, Gael Zembal.

Task Force Charge Make recommendations to facilitate the creation of a student-centered collegiate and campus culture in St. Paul

Suggested Outcomes: University-wide recognition of St. Paul as an early adopter/ leader in creating a “green” campus through a significant student-led initiative. A visible, active commitment to environmental sustainability and civic engagement in campus programming and events. Greater ethnic and cultural diversity in student and campus life. Memorable campus and collegiate traditions and events that are a hallmark of CFANS. An appropriate collegiate ‘brand’ and identity that links the heritage, multiple strengths, and future of the College. Effective, timely and appropriate communications with relevant stakeholder groups.

Recommendations and Proposed Initiatives Create a CFANS Campus Community Office, staffed by a CFANS employee (full or half time) with co-faculty and student directors whose charge is to enhance, and maintain a student-centered collegiate and campus culture in St. Paul. This office would be the place from where campus culture initiatives, including a “Green Campus,” are administered. Support and work to enhance the Farmers Market on St Paul campus Develop CFANS student “Greening Grants” for student proposals related to greening the campus (to be administered through (CCSEEL) Encourage the development of a Biodigester in St Paul campus Work with CFANS to adopt student initiative to convert food service waste oil into biodiesl in cooperation with Transportation Mgmt

Recommendations and Proposed Initiatives Integrated, student-run SARITA initiative and similar green classroom projects coordined with facilities management and the storm water linkage committee. Develop and construct St Paul campus Sustainability or “Green” walk where various sustainable/green activities/research/structures/etc are pointed out and described by plaques placed around campus and develop a website and brochure with these organized into various ‘walks’ or ‘vita walks’ with resting benches or exercise stations at different stops. Each Fall semester, organize and serve a “Welcome Reception for new Freshmen and Transfer students and their families”. Foods representing those produced or supported by CFANS such as Native American foods, products from the dairy and meats labs, cornercopia, fruit farm, etc could be served. Brief presentations will be made by the deans and an entertaining speaker with a message to our new students. Each Fall and Spring semester 3 departments and 3-4 associated student organizations will organize and serve a late afternoon/early evening progressive dinner social highlighting foods and activities of their departments. Student members from the participating organizations will be asked to invite 2 faculty/staff from other departments in CFANS to attend with them at the social.
