The Cycle of Analysis A process to improve performance NQ Physical Education The Cycle of Analysis A process to improve performance From original work by C.Mueller-Ahsmann 2004

What is the Cycle of Analysis? Read Leckie & Leckie H/Int2 Course notes pp 11-13 What is the Cycle of Analysis? This is a four stage process designed to maximise the performance improvement of a player, i.e. to help you get better. 1. Investigate 2. Analyse 3. Develop 4. Review / Evaluate This improvement process becomes a cycle ..... 1. Investigate 4. Review / Evaluate 2. Analyse 3. Develop

The Cycle of Analysis Initial data collection Need to review performance Identify stronger & weaker aspects of performance Can you help me improve? Monitor training programme Focused data collection Undertake improvement programme Identify an area to develop Plan a skill improvement programme

Improving Performance The aim of any serious performer is to improve performance. Why? To achieve a goal or target that has been set either by yourself or by a teacher or coach, e.g. Learning a new skill; improving a skill or technique to be more effective in an activity. How? In order to develop your performance effectively you must: Consider the demands/requirements of your activity Form a clear impression of your current levels of skill and fitness. Identify your strengths and development needs in the activity. What for? To make training specific and appropriate for your levels of skill & fitness.

Understanding how to apply the Cycle of Analysis - The Process Before you can tackle NAB Part 1, you must be able to answer these questions: How have you assessed or evaluated your current level of badminton performance (i) in general and (ii) more specifically? What do you need to work on first to improve your badminton performance? How will you assess/evaluate if you have made any improvement?

Understanding how to apply the Cycle of Analysis - The Process Learning Checkpoint To be sure that you have understood and can remember what you did in the recent theory/practical session(s): Describe the first method you used to evaluate your badminton performance in competition in class? Describe the first method you used to gather information about your badminton skills and their effectiveness? (provide an example). Describe how you collected data on an aspect of your physical fitness for badminton, (use diagrams to illustrate your answer). Describe in detail how you collected data about an aspect of skill-related fitness?
