Cell Cycle IPMATC
Cell Cycle 3 Parts: Interphase Mitosis Cytokinesis Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase Cytokinesis
Stage 1: Interphase Growth: cell doubles in size and makes the structures needed for division DNA replication: the cell doubles the amount of DNA in the nucleus Preparation for Division: continues to make structures needed for division
Stage 2: Mitosis One copy of the DNA is passed on to each of the daughter cells Occurs in 4 parts: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase
2A:Prophase Chromatin coils and condenses and forms chromosomes, spindle fibers begin to form, nuclear membrane breaks down Chromatid: a single rod of genetic material in a chromosome Centromere: holds the two chromatids together to form a chromosome
2B: Metaphase Chromosomes line up at the center of the cell on the spindle fibers Spindle fibers are attached to centromeres
2C: Anaphase Chromatids separate to opposite ends of the cell Cell becomes stretched
Telophase Chromosomes begin to lose their shape Nuclear membrane begins to reform
3: Cytokinesis Cell membrane pinches around the middle and 1 “parent” cell is split into 2 “daughter” cells. Each daughter cell has an identical number of chromosomes, and about the same amount of organelles and cytoplasm. Mitosis Video
