Live Aid was a multi-venue rock music concert held on July 13, The event was organised by Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, Harvey Goldsmith and the Band Aid Trust, in order to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia. Billed as a "global jukebox", the main sites for the event were Wembley Stadium, London, attended by 72,000 people, and JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, attended by about 90,000 people, with some acts performing at other venues such as Sydney and Moscow.

It was one of the largest scale satellite link-ups and TV broadcasts of all time -- an estimated 1.5 billion viewers in 100 countries watched the live broadcast.

Development aid (also development assistance, international aid, overseas aid or foreign aid) is aid given by governmental and economic agencies to support the economic, social and political development of developing countries. Development aid may come from developed or developing country governments as well as from international organizations such as the World Bank. It is distinguished from humanitarian aid as being aimed at alleviating poverty in the long term, rather than alleviating suffering in the short term (Foreign aid, on the other hand, includes both development aid and humanitarian aid. Some governments include military assistance in the notion "foreign aid", although many NGOs tend to disapprove of this).foreign aidaid developmentdeveloping countriesdevelopedWorld Bankhumanitarian aidNGOs

Official Development Assistance The nations of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), made up of the developed nations of the world, have committed to providing a certain level of development assistance to underdeveloped countries. This is called Official Development Assistance (ODA), and is given by governments on certain concessional terms, usually as simple donations. It is given by governments through individual countries' international aid agencies (bilateral aid), through multilateral institutions such as the World Bank, or through development charities such as Oxfam. 1.Why was the Live Aid concert so important? Because it raised $100 million for famine victims in Ethiopia and also raised public attention. It also put pressure on politicians to do something about the famine.

In 1963, the United Nations set up the World Food Programme aiming to reduce the problem of world hunger. A number of programmes have been organized and the WFP has helped more than one billion people around the world. 2. What has the United Nations done to fight the problem of world hunger?

Because the poverty still exists after the food has been eaten up. 3. Why is food aid alone not enough to help poor countries? 4. What things are included in the infrastructure of a country? Things like transport, irrigation, electricity, postal service, telephones and schools are included.

Development aid together with food aid. Because the future of developing countries lies in the hands of young people. 5. What is the long-term solution to the problem of poverty? 6. Why is education and training for young people in developing countries so important?

Because if you give a man a fish, you can only feed him for a day, but if you teach a man how to fish you feed him for a lifetime. 7. Why is it better to teach a man to fish than to give him a fish?
