The Right Coach at the Right Place at the Right Time COACHING JUNIOR GOLF The Right Coach at the Right Place at the Right Time

TRADITION PGA TRAIN AND EDUCATE GOLF PROFESSIONALS IN A RANGE OF SKILLS SUCCESSFUL? LIMITED COACH DEVELOPMENT HIGH TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE LIMITED ON COACHING PROCESS PRACTICE ON JUNIORS THEN MOVE ON NEW APPROACH NEEDED

IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS DOES GOLF WANT MORE YOUNG PEOPLE ENTERING AND STAYING IN THE SPORT? MORE ADULTS RETURNING TO AND FINDING THE SPORT? MORE TALENTED PLAYERS REACHING THEIR POTENTIAL? MORE ELITE PLAYERS? TO BE THE BEST?

QUESTIONS GOLF MAY NEED TO/MAY HAVE ASKED? WHAT EXPANSION DEMANDS WILL GOLF FACE? HOW MANY COACHES ARE NEEDED? WHAT TYPE OF COACHES ARE REQUIRED? WHERE & WHEN ARE THEY REQUIRED? IN WHAT STRUCTURES WILL THEY BE WORKING? HOW DO CURRENT COACHES MATCH EMERGING NEEDS? WHAT TURNOVER OF COACHES ARE LIKELY TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN THE FUTURE? This is aspirational and requires organisations to embrace the notion of continuous improvement Fit for purpose = development of individual coaches RC, RP, RT = development of coaching as a whole Fit for purpose also means all coaches whether they are operating in the school yard or on the Olympic stage RC, RP, RT = also means the stage in the players development not just the time and venue of the activity
