Are you intentional about your legacy? Your PLN is your opportunity to leave a lasting legacy to your.... (2013, Theriault)

So many tools, so little time!

Two tools to rule them all! Well not really, but we will explain.

Anatomy of a tweet

Twitter Vocabulary Reply Retweet (RT) Modified tweet (MT) Follow/FollowerTimeline or stream FavoriteDirect Message (DM) Ts, Ss, and Ps Tweeps/Tweeple/Tweet-up/Twittermonial

Hashtags (Topics) #caedchat #ccsschat #elemchat #cpchat (connected principals) #ntchat (new teachers) #gtchat (gifted and talented) #spedchat #edtech Also grade level/subject specific

Setting up an account ●Sign in with at twitter.com ●Real name or a memorable professional name (no underscores) ●Real photo or recognizable drawing (screenshot) ●Create a bio (how long teaching, where you are, etc.) ●Make your profile public

Twitter Dos ●Follow at least educators ●Accept that you will not be able to read every tweet… EVER (power of the RT) ●Give it 2 months ●Interact with people whose tweets you find interesting (lurking is okay at first) ●Unfollow people who are not adding to your experience ●Be professional

●Follow one or two people. Look at who they follow or interact with and follow those people. ●Tweet to that one person, ask who they recommend, and follow those people. ●Click on a hashtag. Follow people who are saying things you find interesting or valuable. ●There are many lists of key people to follow. ●Look at people’s bios and tweets to help you decide if you want to follow them. Get started

How to follow

Important to remember the 3 stages of becoming a connected educator. Stage 1: Lurker Stage 2: Tentative participant Stage 3: Contributing member

"Unless the only thing you do is hand out worksheets other people made, you have things to share on Twitter." Tweet: ●about an activity you are doing ●a success you have had with a student ●about something that frustrates you so you can get help What can you share?
