Basics of Midterm Grading Midterm grading is done via a midterm grade roster Midterm grade rosters are static – once created, the roster will have the same students whether students add or drop Midterm grade rosters were created for every undergraduate level class
Basics of Midterm Grading Midterm rosters contain every student enrolled in undergraduate level classes, including those who have withdrawn (dropped after 30 th day) Students who have withdrawn will have a W grade already posted in the official grade column on the grade roster All students enrolled in undergraduate level classes are to be given a midterm grade For students who are auditing a class, provide the ‘AU’ (which stands for audit), using the drop-down.
Who Can Do Midterm Grading Midterm grade rosters are available to any instructor assigned to the class with grading access Grading access is provided using the ROOMS system at the point of assignment Coordinators or other staff members that submit Midterm grades will need to be added as an Instructor with 0% teaching assignment and grading access

Mechanics of Midterm Grading To submit Midterm grades for a class, follow these steps: Go to Faculty Center in zzusis TAs or others may need to find the Faculty Center by going to Main Menu > Self Service > Faculty Center > My Schedule Click on the Grade Roster icon to the left of the class you wish to grade Provide a grade for each student, using the drop-down, or the ‘add grade to selected students’ button, or the ‘upload grades to roster’ button (or any combination)
Mechanics of Midterm Grading To submit Midterm grades for a class, follow these steps (cont.) : Once all grades are entered change the status to APPROVED then click the Save button A message will appear “You have successfully submitted your midterm grades” Once the Roster is saved, students can immediately view their grades in the Student Center in zzusis
Midterm Grading Final Thoughts To save a partial entry of grades keep the Approval Status in NOT REVIEWED and click the SAVE button before leaving the roster. This will save the grades you have entered Once all the grades are entered, the status is changed to APROVED and click the SAVE button. A message will appear “You have successfully submitted your midterm grades” Approval Status can be changed back to NOT REVIEWED if a grade was incorrectly entered. After the correct grade is entered, change status to APPROVED and click the Save button. The message “You have successfully submitted your midterm grades” displays again
Notes on CSV File for Upload CSV File must be in this format: Two columns: ID# (in 9 digit format), Grade In Excel, highlight the ID# column. Right- click and select “Format Cell”. Select “Custom”. Enter 9 zeros ( ) as the Type No header row No name, major or other columns Mac users: Must save as ‘Windows Comma Separated file’
Common Questions Who should receive midterm grades? Midterm grades should be submitted for all students enrolled in undergraduate level classes by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, March 5th. (For details, see academic regulation 88.) Can an instructor review and/or revise midterm grades? Yes. To review and/or revise a midterm grade, an instructor can go back anytime and change the approval status of the grade roster to NOT REVIEWED. This will enable the instructor to change a grade. Students see their midterm grades in zzusis in their Student Center, under Academics, and then by choosing Grades, and clicking on the Midterm Grades tab There is a student on my midterm grade roster who has a “W” grade under “Official Grade.” What does that mean? If a student has withdrawn, you will see the “W” listed. You do not need to enter a midterm grade for a student who has withdrawn
Common Questions, cont. What happens if I don’t want to give a student a midterm grade? You are strongly encouraged to give a midterm grade. As a indication of progress all students benefit from receiving a midterm grade. What do I do if I’m teaching a class, but don’t have a faculty center? Your academic department can make sure you have access as an instructor for the class you are teaching, through the instructor table in zzusis and in ROOMS.
