First, some vocabulary Disciple: A person who has committed to following and becoming like Jesus Christ. (Mark 1:14-20, Luke 9:23-29, Luke 9:57-62, Luke 14:25-33). Discipleship: The life-long process of becoming like Jesus. (our topic tonight) John 13:34-35 Discipler: A person who is responsible for the spiritual growth of another Christian.

Discipler? 1 Thess 5:12-13 …those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you. Titus 2:15 Encourage and rebuke with all authority. 1 Cor 11:1 Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ. Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Hebrews 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. 1 Corinthians 16:15-16 Submit yourselves to such as these… Colossians 1:28-29 I teach and admonish everyone…to present everyone mature in Christ. Biblically, these passages seem to apply to the leaders.

Discipling Encourage one another Hebrews 3:16 Teach and admonish one another Colossians 3:16 Carry one another’s burdens Galatians 6:2 Speak the truth to one another Ephesians 4:15 Confess your sins to one another James 5:16 Pray for each other James 5:16 Instruct one another Romans 15:14

We Proclaim Him: Discipling One Another Coll 1:28-29 We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me. Gal 4:19 My dear children, for whom I am in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you.

Competent to Counsel One Another Romans 15:14 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another. Ephesians 4:15-19 Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up on love, as each part does its work.

Like a mother… Like a father…  1 Thess 2:7-11.  Let us present everyone complete/mature in Christ.  We Proclaim Him
