1. Results of summative assessments shall be the bases for rating student performance in every grading period or quarter. However, results of pre-assessment and other formative assessments shall be recorded and analyzed by the teacher for purposes of tracking student progress and for determining instructional interventions. General Guidelines in the Computation of Grades for Grades 1 to 10 of the K to 12 Enhanced Basic Education Program

2. The number of Content Standard per grading period or quarter in any learning area shall determine the number of summative assessment to be administered by the subject teacher.

3. To determine the student’s level of proficiency (Beginning, Developing, Approaching Proficiency, Proficient, or Advanced) in a specific learning area per grading period, compute the corresponding numerical rating by following the steps below:

3.1 Compute the percentage score (PS) for each level of assessment (Knowledge, Process/Skills, Understanding and Product/ Performance). To do so, add the scores of all Summative Assessments (SA) under each level, divided by the total number of items and multiply by 100.

To get the weighted percentage score (WPS), multiply the percentage score by the percentage weight of the level of assessment. WPS = PS x Percentage Weight of the Level of Assessment (For illustrative computation refer to the attached sample class record)

Add the weighted percentage scores of the four (4) levels of assessment to get the numerical rating rounded off to two decimal places for the grading period.

5. To compute the rating for MAPEH in Grades 4 to 10, the following provisions shall be followed: 5.1 The level of proficiency for each component shall be determined separately following the same steps in item no. 2 above. The level of proficiency of a student in MAPEH per grading period/quarter shall be determined by getting the average of the four components.

However, if a student incurred a Beginning (B) level of proficiency (a numerical rating of 74 and below) in any of the four components of MAPEH, the average rating for MAPEH shall not be computed. Hence, no grade in that particular grading period/quarter shall be given until such time when the deficiency has been completed.

5.2 The Final Rating of a student in MAPEH shall not be computed if there is no rating in any one or two of the components in any grading period/quarter. Hence, NO Final Rating shall be indicated unless the deficiency has been completed. The deficiency of a student in any of the components shall be completed within the next grading period. Summer classes shall only be allowed if the deficiency is at 4 th Grading Period. However, if the student failed to complete the deficiency after the next grading period/quarter or summer, he/she is considered retained in MAPEH for the current Grade level. Therefore, the student is not allowed to enroll in the succeeding grade level of MAPEH. Nevertheless, the student shall only be required to retake the lesson/grading period/quarter where he/she has deficiency. Thus, the MAPEH teacher is strongly advised to provide appropriate and timely instructional intervention(s) to prevent such a situation from happening.

6. The general average across learning areas shall be computed only for determining candidates for honors and for other purposes (e.g., sectioning, scholarship, college entrance, etc…) 7. Inasmuch as promotion and retention of students shall be by learning area, the classification of their Grade Level shall be based on the following conditions:

7.1 If the student has a Final Rating of “D” and above (or numerical rating of 75 and above) in all learning areas, he/she shall be classified “Promoted” to the succeeding Grade level. 7.2 If the student got a Final Rating of “B” in more than four (4) learning areas based on the Final Rating (Beginning level of proficiency), he/she is classified “Retained” in the current Grade level. 7.3 If the student has a final rating of “B” in any learning area, he/she is classified as an Irregular Student with deficiency in _________ (name or identify the learning area where the student has incurred a “B”).

8. A student is allowed to take summer classes with a maximum of three (3) learning areas regardless of the time allotment (Guidelines for summer classes are contained in a separate issuance).
