What is LEED®? Energy and Environmental Design Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System Certification programme (for buildings) LEED ensures that facilities are designed, constructed and operated effectively (focus on life cycle cost) Documents are assembled and submitted to US or Canadian Green Building Council (USGBC) for certification LEED is an abbreviation for: Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

United States Green Building Council Promotes construction of buildings that are: Environmentally responsible Profitable Healthy places to live and work The US Green Building Council is a non-profit organization. This programm is supported by the US government and is in line with the activities for „Rebuild America“. Buildings have to be certified according to the Leed rules. In Canada, the criteria are for 95 % identical to US. The policy is focused on: Environmental responsibility Profitablility Healthy places to live and work

Why is LEED® important? Estimates for Canada (2007) Percentage of owners that will certify their buildings: Educational 65% Government 62% Office 48% Healthcare 46% Residential 32% Hospitality 22% Retail 22% An increasing number of owners, operators, architects and engineers design and plan for Green Building. This trend is accentuated by government incentives. Increasing number of owners, operators, architects and engineers design and plan for Green Building. This trend is accentuated by government incentives.

LEED® – Standards 2009 Standards available edition 2009: Green Building Design and Construction New Construction Core and Shell Schools Commercial interiors For different types of buildings, standards for rating are available Review points on slide. Based on the earned points (rating) the building will be certified.

LEED® - Principals 9 1 8 2 6 7 4 5 3 Certification for project (building) LEED® - Principals 1 Idea for LEED certification! LEED design and documentation of project Demand for project certification, provide documentation Request for design according to LEED rules, define level! 8 2 6 To be accredited for LEED 7 Provide documents 1 The request for design according to LEED rules is given by the building owner. Keep in mind that for public buildings the request is given by the authorities. 2 The building owner should give the order to the architects and engineers to develop the project according to the LEED rules and levels. 3 The planner team will establish the specifications. 4. The contractors are in charge to provide all information regarding material and application rules. 5. Contractors will request detailed information concerning materials from the suppliers and manufacturers. 6. The suppliers have to provide information and declaration for the relevant materials. 7 The contractor provides all requested documents for the planner team. 8. The planner team should work out a documentation and submit the dossier to the Green Building Council. 9. After checking the documentation, the certificate for the building will be issued and published (by the Green Building Council). Provide information and declaration for products Requirement to contractors and demand for information 4 5 3 Demand for information

LEED® – Levels 2009 Four levels of LEED 2009: Certified level 40-49 points Silver level 50-59 points Gold level 60-79 Platinum level 80+ (100+10 possible) LEED-NC, v1.0--Level: Certified LEED-NC, v1.0--Level: Platinum Energy Resource Center There are four levels of LEED building certifications. -Basic certification is at the LEED Certified level, a minimum of 26 points. -Platinum certification incorporates the most “green” building and design features at a minimum of 52 points. -Up to four innovation credits are available for a project that demonstrates excellence by achieving higher levels of efficiency in existing categories or by identifying a new category that improves the LEED intent. Indoor Environmental Quality Material and Resources LEED® - Points Majority of credit-points earned in five design/build credit- categories: Indoor Environmental Quality Sustainable Sites Material and Resources -The five environmental categories are further divided into “credits.” For each credit, the rating system identifies the intent, requirements and technologies or strategies to achieve the credit. One or more points are available within each credit, and points are achieved by meeting specified requirements. Most categories contain prerequisites. ALL seven prerequisites MUST be met in order to qualify for ANY certification level. In addition to the five environmental categories, there is also an “Innovation and Design Process” category. 69 points total: Sustainable Sites: 8 credits, 14 points Water Efficiency: 3 credits, 5 points Energy and Atmosphere: 6 credits, 17 points Materials and Resources: 7 credits, 13 points Indoor Environmental Quality: 8 credits, 15 points Innovation: 4 points LEED Accredited Professional: 1 point Water Efficiency Energy and Atmosphere

LEED and Sika Sika materials and systems can impact following LEED categories: Sustainable Site (SS) Energy and Atmosphere (EA) Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Sika can help to achieve LEED credits: Materials and Resources (MR) Review points on slide Sika materials can impact three of the LEED categories: Sustainable Site; Energy and Atmosphere; Materials and Resources.

Sika-relevant Credits Material and Resources Credit 4 Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Credit 4.1 Low-Emitting Materials – Adhesives and Sealants Credit 4.2 Low-Emitting Materials - Paints and Coatings Credit 4.3 Low-Emitting Materials – Flooring Systems Credit 5 Regional Materials (MR) 500 miles Should be considered in case by case.

Sika-relevant Credits for Flooring, Coating (example) Credit 4.2 Low-Emitting Materials, Paints and Coatings (IEQ) Clear wood finishes, floor coatings, stains, primers > SCAQMD rule 1113 Example floor coatings VOC < 100 g/l. Sikadur Sikafloor SikaGard All Cement Products

Sika-relevant Credits for Sealants, Adhesives (example) Credit 4.1 Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Low-Emitting Materials, Adhesives and Sealants Sikaflex Sikasil SikaBond SCAQMD rule 1168, VOC Content Example ceramic tile adhesive < 65 g/l wood flooring adhesives < 100g/l

LEED - Credit for Sika Sarnafil Roofing (example) Credit 2 On-Site Renweable Energy (EA) Use on-site renewable energy systems to offset building energy costs. Calculate project performance by expressing to energy produced by the renewable systems as percentage of the buildings annual energy cost. Credit 6 Green Power (EA) Engage in at least a 2-year renewable energy contract to provide at least 35% of the buildings electricity from renewable sources. Example of Sika products: Sika offers roof waterproofing master membranes for lamination of photovoltaic cells.

LEED® - Credit for Sika Sarnafil roofing (example) Credit 7.2 Heat Island Effect (SS) High reflecting Use roofing materials with solar reflectance index >78 for min. 75% of roof surface (low sloped roofs). Example, high reflecting roof waterproofing membrane, e.g. Sarnafil S 327 Energy Smart. Green roofs Install a vegetated roof that covers at least 50% of the roof area. Example of Sika products: e.g. Sikaplan 45, Sikaplan SGMA, Sarnafil G 476. Reflective roofing such as Sika Sarnafil's EnergySmart Roof®, or a "green" vegetated roof using a Sika Sarnafil Green Roof System, qualify for one point under Sustainable Sites Credit 7: Heat Island Effect: Roof, Req. 2, which states: "Use ENERGY STAR compliant (highly reflective) AND high emissivity roofing (emissivity of at least 0.9 when tested in accordance with ASTM 408) for a minimum of 75% of the roof surface; OR install a "green" (vegetated) roof for at least 50% of the roof area. Combinations of high albedo and vegetated roof can be used providing they collectively cover 75% of the total roof area."
