Newlands Teaching and Learning Remember the Student in your Pedagogy

When did you last… Not think like an adult? (without constraint)

When did you last… Look at things with a curious mind?

When did you last… Find a challenge for every student?

When did you last… Place yourself in a learner’s shoes?

When did you last… Ask a student what they want to learn?

When did you last… Think about the impact of a Target Grade/Level?

When did you last… Think that adolescent learning is different from your own?

When did you last… Ask a student what they want to achieve?

When did you last… Let the students lead the learning?

When did you last… Ask a student why they answered the way they did?

When did you last… Let yourself wonder with the students?

When did you last… Wonder what a student thinks in your classroom?

When did you last… Get wildly creative and see things differently?

When did you last… Take time to reflect?

When did you last… Think about the difference between teaching and learning?

When did you last… Take a risk with what you teach?

When did you last… Teach with passion?

When did you last… Try something different?

When did you last… Not follow the system?

When did you last… Teach with a ‘Growth Mindset’?

When did you last… Just have fun teaching? (and maybe freak out a random kid)

When did you last… Think what others see in your presentation/lesson?

When did you last… Act as the ‘Meddler in the Middle’, rather than a ‘Sage on the Stage’ or a ‘Guide on the Side’?

When did you last… Teach a lesson backwards, Plenary first?

When did you last… Give homework that leads into a lesson, not out of one?

When did you last… Think of the student first, not your teaching?
