Lower Level National Engineer Officers 46 CFR Chief Engineer (Limited) of Steam, Motor and/or Gas Turbine-Propelled Vessels (previously Chief Engineer-Limited Oceans) 46 CFR Assistant Engineer (Limited) of Steam, Motor and/or Gas Turbine Propelled Vessels(previously Assistant Engineer-Limited-Oceans) 46 CFR Designated Duty Engineer(DDE) of Steam, Motor, and/or Gas Turbine Propelled Vessels
Effective 3/24/14 CE(LO) CE(LTD-NC) Mariners holding an endorsement as Chief Engineer (Limted Oceans) OR Chief Engineer (Limited Near Coastal) will be issued CHIEF ENGINEER (LIMITED). They may serve on both OC or NC waters. Also, 5 years of sea service is required for Chief Engineer(Limited). (46 CFR ) CHANGES Note: If service or training is before 3/24/14, mariner may apply under the previous regulations until 3/24/19. Those who qualify will be issued Chief Engineer(Limited). Renewals- a mariner who renews a CE(L-O) or CE(LTD-NC) will be issued CE(LTD) without additional requirements if they are qualified to renew their MMC. Mariners holding an endorsement as Assistant Engineer (Limited-Oceans) will be issued Assistant Engineer(Limited). (46 CFR ) They may serve on both OC or NC waters. Effective 3/24/14 AE(LTD-OC)
GAS TURBINE PROPULSION [46 CFR ]. The new regulations add requirements for a national endorsement valid for gas turbine propulsion. Under the new regulations, mariners must complete an examination that includes subjects related to gas turbine propulsion, and either complete approved training for gas turbine propulsion or serve a portion of their qualifying service on gas turbine vessels. Mariners who began service or training before March 24, 2014, may qualify for an engineer officer endorsement valid for gas turbine propulsion based on the previous method of service or training until March 24, Mariners who began service or training before March 24, 2014, may also elect to qualify under the new regulations, requiring an examination and service on gas turbine vessels. After March 24,2019, all mariners must qualify under the new regulations. (NVIC 02-14). CHANGES NEW
