Qualified Live Fire Instructor Review

Who is eligible to take the LFQ Course? FF I & II Qualified Instructor for Five Years Must have sponsoring agency Must have at least five apprentice burns with a Live Fire Qualified Instructor Must have the desire to conduct burns correctly Level II documentation

Live Fire Qualification Course Requirements First: Pass a written exam demonstrating knowledge of NFPA 1403, NFPA 1142, and FF I & II Essentials Second: Successfully complete practical evolution within 6 months Third: Complete and submit a correct pre-burn plan within 6 months

ATTITUDES TO FOSTER Safety of all personnel Ensure proper control during training exercises Hazardous conditions are corrected Unsafe acts are corrected

NFPA 1403, 2007 edition Deals with training all fire suppression personnel engaged in firefighting operations under live fire conditions.

NFPA 1403, 2007 edition Provides a process for conducting live fire training evolutions to ensure that they are conducted in safe facilities and that the exposure to health and safety hazards for the fire fighting receiving the training is minimized. AHJ The “AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION” is the organization, office or individual responsible for enforcing the requirements of a code or standard. NFPA 1403 3.2.1

Instructor An individual qualified by the AHJ to deliver firefighting training, who has the training and experience to supervise students during live fire training evolutions. NFPA 1403 3.3.5

Instructor In Charge An individual qualified as an instructor and designated by the AHJ to be in charge of the live fire training evolution. NFPA 1403 3.3.6

Safety Officer An individual appointed by the AHJ as qualified to maintain a safe working environment at all live fire training evolutions. NFPA 1403 3.3.9

Chapter 4 4.4.4 The Safety officer shall provide for the safety of all persons on the scene including students, instructors, visitors, and spectators.
