MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men’s Basketball Proposal Adopted October 2013 ProposalIntentPrior to Adoption Current Rule RECRUITING -- RECRUITING CALENDARS -- MEN'S BASKETBALL -- APRIL EVALUATION PERIODS FOR CERTIFIED EVENTS Intent: In men's basketball, to eliminate the evaluation period for certified nonscholastic events that may occur in May in the event of conflicts with weekends in April. If two evaluation periods were not available in April, a weekend in May was designated. All evaluation periods are limited to April, so if conflicts exist there may only be one evaluation period in the spring. This will occur in 2014 and again in 2019.

FBS Football Proposals Adopted October 2013 ProposalIntentPrior to Adoption Current Rule FBS RECRUITING -- CONTACTS AND EVALUATIONS -- ATTENDANCE AND CONTACT AT ALL-STAR CONTESTS -- BOWL SUBDIVISION FOOTBALL In bowl subdivision football, to specify that in- person contact with a prospective student- athlete who is participating in an all-star contest shall not be made from the time the prospective student- athlete arrives in the locale of the contest until he returns to his home or to his educational institution; further, to specify that an institutional staff member shall not attend an all-star contest or other activities associated with such a contest (e.g., practice, banquets, coaches clinics, etc.). Subject to the recruiting calendar, it was permissible for institutional staff members to attend and for coaching staff members to have in-person contact at an all- star contest. No institutional staff member may attend an all-star contest or any associated activities and no coaching staff member may have contact with a prospect participating in an all-star contest.

An institution may provide meals for up to four family members accompanying a prospective student-athlete on an official visit.

FBS Football Proposals Adopted October 2013 ProposalIntentPrior to Adoption Current Rule RECRUITING -- RECRUITING CALENDARS -- DECEMBER DEAD PERIOD THROUGH AFCA CONVENTION -- BOWL SUBDIVISION FOOTBALL In bowl subdivision football, to revise the recruiting calendar to establish a dead period from the Monday of the week that includes the initial date of the midyear junior college transfer National Letter of Intent signing period through the Wednesday of the week of the annual convention of the American Football Coaches Association. This time span included several dead and quiet periods for high school and two year college prospective student-athletes. For all prospective student-athletes, a dead period exists Monday of the week that includes the initial date of the midyear junior college transfer NLI signing period through the Wednesday of the week of the annual AFCA convention.

Summer activities were limited to voluntary strength and conditioning activities. A student-athlete enrolled in summer school or meets established academic requirements may engage in required weight-training, conditioning and film review for up to 8 weeks for a maximum of 8 hours per week with not more than 2 hours per week on film review.
